NBA 2K18 - Brooklyn Nets

Recommended Posts

For anyone interested, I plan on continuing this in the coming days. Haven't had a chance to play or update this as I've had uni work to do but that'll be out of the way for now on Monday, so I will be continuing this and potentially starting up a new diary based on a web based game I play called MMArmy.

Brooklyn Nets Game Time

7th Game of the Season: Brooklyn Nets Vs. Denver Nuggets

Nets’ Starting Lineup:

PG: DeAngelo Russell

SG: Caris LeVert

SF: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

PF: Trevor Booker

C: DeWayne Dedmon

Nuggets’ Starting Lineup:

PG: Emmanuel Mudiay

SG: Gary Harris

SF: Wilson Chandler

PF: Paul Millsap

C: Nikola Jokic

1st Quarter:

A close back-and-forth game went slightly into the Nuggets’ favour at the end of the 1st as they lead 26-20. Jokic lead them with a great 7 points and 6 rebounds, though it was only on 2-5 shooting. Plumlee and Millsap also got 4 points each, showing that the big men have been Nuggets’ way to go so far. For the Nets, though, it was Russell who heated up early in the 1st with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal, which lead to the play of the quarter as he stole the ball and slammed it on the opposite end. Zeller managed to pick up 4 rebounds, a steal and a block, whilst LeVert stole the ball twice.

2nd Quarter:

Whilst the 1st was a close, hard fought quarter, the 2nd was far from that, with everything seemingly falling for the Nuggets but not for the Nets as the Nuggets took a commanding 63-45 lead. Murray took command for the Nuggets in the 2nd, scoring 9 points on 4-4 shooting whilst Jokic scored 5 points and rebounded the ball 4 times, securing himself a double-double in the first half. Barton and Harris also managed 7 points each on 3-3 and 3-4 shooting respectively. Russell managed just 2 points but also picked up 2 more rebounds and 4 assists in the 2nd, leaving him well on his way to a potential triple-double. Dedmon lead the Nets with 7 points and rebounds whilst Booker picked up 4 points and 3 rebounds. The play of the quarter came when Russell fed the ball through the middle for a big two-handed slam from Hollis-Jefferson.

3rd Quarter:

The Nuggets slightly expanded their lead in the 3rd, ending the quarter at 93-72. Jokic again impressed when he was on the court with 6 points and 4 rebounds, also stealing the ball 3 times, whilst Plumlee managed 4 points and 6 rebounds. Hollis-Jefferson impressed big for the Nets with 8 points, including the play of the quarter after a Dedmon assist. Russell and Carroll picked up 5 points each whilst LeVert assisted on 4 plays.

4th Quarter:

As expected, the Nuggets took the game 122-105, despite the Nets having the better final quarter. Millsap actually lead the Nuggets in the final quarter with 11 points and 4 rebounds, whilst Jokic was kept quiet for the first time in the game despite earning player of the game. Mudiay picked up 6 assists in the 4th quarter, ending with 13 overall. Hollis-Jefferson picked up another 9 points, seemingly finding his scoring touch around the rim. Russell completed his triple-double, picking up 3 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists in the 4th. Zeller picked up another 4 rebounds also. Hollis-Jefferson earned the play of the quarter again as a bounce pass lead to him scoring the contact dunk.

Result: Brooklyn Nets 105 – 122 Denver Nuggets

Player of the Game: Nikola Jokic22 Pts, 14 Reb, 4 Ast, 5 Stl, 1 Blk, 8-13 FG

My Takeaways:

My god, they hit so many 3-pointers and it seemed like my team left them open way too much, even without screens and picks. 3 of their players ended with double-doubles in points and rebounds (Jokic, Plumlee and Millsap) and Mudiay had a double-double in points and assists. Jokic’s 5 assists were big in stopping us from getting in to the paint too much, as were Chandler’s 4.

For us, Hollis-Jefferson lead the team with 21 points, a career high for him, as I have started playing for more aggressive with him, since his jumper isn’t really there. He managed 10-16 shooting, since most of his shots were around the basket. Russell was great for us, especially since he managed to stay on the court this game, ending with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists on 7-12 shooting, also getting 3 steals. I do control him a lot on defence, as a lot of the play tends to come through the oppositions PG, so that did have something to do with him getting plenty of rebounds this game. Carroll scored 17 points, tying his season high, and was big when it came to contact and-one plays. Dedmon was very efficient, scoring 13 points on 6-7 shooting and also grabbing 10 rebounds. Booker was the final player to score above 10 for us with 11 points.

Reed has been really good so far. He picked up 8 points off the bench this game and also came up big with another 4 blocks to join his 3 from his first game. Dedmon and Zeller also blocked 2 shots each whilst Booker blocked 1. Along with Russell’s 3 steals, Booker and LeVert got 2 each and 4 others stole the ball once each. Dinwiddie was quiet in scoring but managed 7 assists, whilst LeVert also picked up 6 assists but only scored 5 points on 2-12 shooting. He has been quite hit-or-miss for me so far. Zeller grabbed 8 rebounds whilst Booker managed 7.

Brooklyn Nets Game Time

8th Game of the Season: Brooklyn Nets Vs. Phoenix Suns

Nets’ Starting Lineup:

PG: DeAngelo Russell

SG: Caris LeVert

SF: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

PF: Trevor Booker

C: DeWayne Dedmon

Suns’ Starting Lineup:

PG: Eric Bledsoe

SG: Devin Booker

SF: T.J. Warren

PF: Marquese Chriss

C: Alex Len

1st Quarter:

A dominant quarter on the boards lead the Suns to take charge of the 1st30-22. Len had a ridiculous quarter, getting 6 points but also 9 rebounds, 5 of which were offensive rebounds, whilst Chandler managed 6 points and 5 rebounds. Chriss also got 5 rebounds. LeVert lead the Nets with 7 points whilst Dinwiddie had 4 points and 3 rebounds, doing a role reversal wit Dedmon who had 4 points and 3 assists. The play of the quarter came from a quick play that lead to Dedmon slamming the ball down.

2nd Quarter:

The Nets’ awful form continues in the 2nd quarter as they fall behind 67-47. The story for the Suns continues to be rebounding and second chance points as Len picks up another 8 points and 6 rebounds in a dominant performance. D. Booker lead the Suns with 9 in the quarter, after a quiet 1st. Russell lead the Nets with 8 points on 4-5 shooting, along with 2 rebounds and assists as well as a steal. Hollis-Jefferson also picked up 6 points on 3-3 shooting. Reed picked up his first play of the quarter as he receives the ball from Zeller and slams it down one-handed.

3rd Quarter:

The Suns continue their blowout win over the Nets in the 3rd, leading 109-79. The big men were a bit quieter for the Suns in the 3rd, instead D. Booker, with 10 points, and Bledsoe, with 12 points, taking over. Jackson also managed 7 points whilst Chandler grabbed 6 rebounds. Dinwiddie had a great quarter for the Nets, heating up with 9 points, not missing once from the floor or the line. As a team, the Nets had multiple steals throughout the quarter, 2 from Carroll alone. The play of the quarter came from T. Booker who dunked following a pick and roll play involving LeVert.

4th Quarter:

The 4th quarter saw both teams fringe players get minutes as it was a clear blowout win for the Suns, who won 132-103. Bender impressed for the Suns in the 4th, getting 8 points and 7 rebounds, whilst James picked up 6 points and Dudley grabbed 5 points and 4 rebounds. For the Nets, Zeller found his scoring touch late as he managed 9 points and 7 rebounds in the quarter. Hollis-Jefferson, Reed and Whitehead, who along with Kilpatrick was getting his first meaningful minutes of the season, scored 4 points each. The play of the quarter came from what is becoming a regular occurrence, Hollis-Jefferson being handed the ball and attacking the basket for an athletic slam.

Results: Brooklyn Nets 103 – 132 Phoenix Suns

Player of the Game: Alex Len14 Pts, 17 Reb, 2 Ast, 2 Stl, 1 Blk, 7-9 FG

My Takeaways:

Yeah, this wasn’t a good game. This was the most frustrated I have gotten so far in this save. I shouldn’t be getting blown out by the Suns but they destroyed be on the boards and seemed to be able to score freely, similarly to the last game against the Nuggets. It is becoming glaringly obvious that I can’t seem to stop big men from scoring and rebounding often. I don’t know if that is just me, as I am aware I am not very good at the game, or if this is a common theme on 2k18.

Dinwiddie managed 16 points in 17 minutes, leading the team for scoring. Zeller managed 15, 9 of which came in the 4th, as well as 10 rebounds, marking his first double-double of the season. He also picked up 2 steals and 3 blocks. Russell managed 14 points and, along with LeVert, lead the team in assists with 6. He too got 2 steals. Hollis-Jefferson, with 12, and Dedmon with 11, were the other two players to score in double-digits.

Brooklyn Nets Game Time

9th Game of the Season: LA Lakers Vs. Brooklyn Nets

Lakers’ Starting Lineup:

PG: Lonzo Ball

SG: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

SF: Luol Deng

PF: Julius Randle

C: Brook Lopez

Nets’ Starting Lineup:

PG: DeAngelo Russell

SG: Caris LeVert

SF: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

PF: Trevor Booker

C: DeWayne Dedmon

1st Quarter:

It took the Nets 6 minutes to score a basket that wasn’t a free throw, but they pulled it back for a close 1st quarter, Lakers leading just 23-22. The Lakers were led by the lanky Ingram, who scored 8 points. Ball also picked up 7. Deng grabbed 4 rebounds for them, proving efficient on the boards. Due to Russell heading off early because of foul trouble again, Dinwiddie lead the Nets in minutes as well as scoring, managing 8 points, also getting 3 assists. Booker managed 5 points whilst Dedmon and Zeller lead them in rebounds with 3 each. There was no play from the Nets that could be considered play of the quarter.

2nd Quarter:

Though the 2nd stayed close for the most part, the Lakers pulled ahead slightly at the end, ending the 1st half up 51-44. Ball, Lopez and Clarkson each scored 5 points in the quarter to lead the Lakers. Zubac had a big quarter though, heating up with 5 rebounds, a steal and a block. For the Nets, it was Dedmon who had a big quarter, leading the team with 6 points and 5 rebounds, though he was inefficient in his shooting. Reed also managed 5 rebounds but the team as a whole are struggling with their shooting. It was the big man Dedmon who got the play of the quarter after his good defence then resulted in a pick and play on the opposite end with Hollis-Jefferson assisting Dedmon on his dunk.

g9ZdBTJ.gif

3rd Quarter:

Lakers really outplayed the Nets in the 3rd, leading 78-63 by the end. Caldwell-Pope tore it up in the 3rd, leading the Lakers with 12 points, with no one else on the team scoring more than 4. Randle picked up 5 rebounds. Russell lead the Nets with 6 points, though his, like everyone else on the team’s, shooting has been inefficient. Dedmon, managing 3 rebounds and a block, again had the play of the quarter when LeVert’s steal quickly found its way up the court for Dedmon who slammed it down.

0ImFoSh.gif

4th Quarter:

Despite some inspired play that saw Russell and Hollis-Jefferson heat up, the Nets could not pull the match back and lost 103-92. The Point Guards lead the way in the 4th for the Lakers, Clarkson scoring 8 and Ball scoring 7, Ball also managing 2 steals. Hollis-Jefferson managed a very impressive 13 points on 6-9 shooting, also getting 2 steals. Russell also managed 2 steals, getting 9 points in the quarter, with 4 assists. Outside of those two, only 3 other players scored a point in the 4th for the Nets. The play of the quarter was perhaps the best in any game yet as Hollis-Jefferson, who has shown off his athleticism a lot recently with some big dunks, pulls off a tomahawk dunk over Randle off the assist from LeVert.

Results: LA Lakers 103 – 92 Brooklyn Nets

Player of the Game: Lonzo Ball19 Pts, 2 Reb, 3 Ast, 3 Stl, 7-16 FG

My Takeaways:

Man, that was a very frustrating game and was somewhat embarrassing up to a point. If it wasn’t for Russell and Hollis-Jefferson heating up in the 4th, this would have been a blow-out loss for us against a team that I’d expect at least to have a close loss too, if not a win. It is embarrassing that I have only one win so far.

Russell had a very good second half, scoring 15 of his team-leading 19 points, but also managed to pick up 3 steals throughout the game. This was actually Russell’s highest scoring game of the season so far. Hollis-Jefferson has really come in to his own the last few games and it showed with him scoring 18 points, 13 of which were in the final quarter. Dedmon was really impressive again today. He managed 10 points, though on poor shooting, especially for a big man, but also picked up 14 rebounds and 3 blocks. Crabbe was the final player to score in double digits, also managing 10 points. He was in better form in this game. LeVert had his third successive game scoring under 10 points and was really unimpressive with his shooting. Dinwiddie scored all 8 of his points in the 1st. Reed also picked up 10 rebounds, whilst Zeller managed 8.

Free throws were really important for us, especially in the 1st when I got to the basket a lot but couldn’t score from the field. We scored 22 out of 26 free throws in the game, compared to Lakers’ 13 out of 16. Lakers lead by as much as 27 points at one point, so losing by just 11 points with the momentum in our favour at the end wasn’t awful.
