WWE has apparently been reaching out to a number of former WWE Superstars about possibly returning to the company.

According to a new PWInsider.com report, with the WWE draft coming in just over a month, additional talent is needed to help fill out the RAW, SmackDown and NXT talent rosters.

While there is no word yet regarding who specifically has been contacted by the company, it is worth noting that both Tajiri and Brian Kendrick were brought in to take part in the upcoming WWE Cruiserweight Classic and could be part of the talent acquisition initiative as well.

Former WWE star Tajiri, who will be competing in the Cruiserweight Classic, recently did a Reddit AMA and below is what he had to say about a possible WWE main roster return:

“At some point I would like to return as an old man, and do a very slow slide into the ring, and a handspring elbow. I was able to do everything except heavyweight and intercontinental titles, so there’s not much left for me to do. Many who were fired seem to want to come back, but I don’t feel that way. I think I’ve done everything I can as a Japanese guy this size.”

As we have already mentioned, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted on Twitter recently that WWE was reaching out to “lots of 40+ year old guys” to return to fill out the roster for the upcoming WWE brand split. According to a new report by Forbes, four names that have been contacted so far include Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio and Goldberg.

The report goes on to say that WWE wants to bring Angle back to Smackdown, and that there have been talks of using him with NXT tag team American Alpha. Other names WWE is apparently interested in include Carlito, John Morrison, JTG, Shad Gaspard and Shelton Benjamin.

While Forbes is generally a credible source for information, take this report with a grain of salt until it is confirmed by additional sources. While it does happen in wrestling, generally through “unofficial” channels, WWE may not even be able to legally reach out to Hardy and Mysterio, who are currently under exclusive contracts with TNA and Lucha Underground, respectively.

We have reached out to WWE and several of the wrestlers listed for comment, and will update Wrestlezone with any information we can.

- Randy Orton, who has been out of action from WWE since undergoing shoulder surgery last February, is currently being advertised for WWE live events in August. The belief is that with Orton being advertised for WWE live events in August, he will be back in time for the SummerSlam pay-per-view.

- Kurt Angle appeared on Mark Madden's radio show on 105.9 The X on Monday and spoke about his current wrestling status. Angle reportedly told Madden that he is definitely coming back, it's just a matter of when. He also claimed that he spoke with Triple H about six weeks ago regarding a potential WWE return. As noted, Angle was recently contacted along with several other past Superstars about returning to WWE for their draft, which goes down on the live edition of WWE SmackDown on Tuesday, July 19th.

Over the weekend, a bombshell may have dropped on the wrestling industry that we most likely won’t know about for a few weeks or even months.

There was a rumor that Kurt Angle had been contacted about a potential return to wwe and potentially reforming Team Angle with Chad Gable and Jason Jordan, who are known as American Alpha in NXT.

However, Angle is not the only former WWE superstar that has been contacted about potentially returning to the company in the near future to help with the brand split.

According to dailywrestlingnews.com the company is specifically looking to bring back former WWE stars that are over the age of forty for veteran presence and to help with all the new talent coming to the main roster.

Other than Kurt Angle, WWE has reportedly contacted, Carlito, Stevie Richards, and MVP. All three men bring something different back to WWE and wouldn’t hurt anyone being a veteran presence putting over new talent.

There is no confirmation that any of these men or any others have been signed by WWE or are even appearing for an appearance on WWE programming. However, it makes sense for WWE to look for veterans that can help.

I have a feeling that when he talked to Triple H 6 weeks ago, they worked something out and that is why they took the belts off American Alpha, and then they will draft Kurt Angle to SmackDown, and then later draft American Alpha to SmackDown and they will slowly start teaming up and becoming Team Angle 2.0

Just a little bit more to the Angle news

Quote

While making an appearance on the Mark Madden show on “105.9 The X” today to promote his upcoming Legends of Wrestling appearance, Kurt Angle said he has recently talked to WWE and Triple H about a return to the company.

Angle did note that he hasn’t spoken to them since the brand split announcement, but he said they had good talks and he and HHH were ‘on good terms’ and that he will return to WWE, it’s just a matter of when. He said no one has contacted him yet about returning for the brand split, and most of his previous talks revolved around him working with newer talents like some of the NXT callups, noting American Alpha as names he’d like to work with.

Angle noted that he’s not sure he’s still part of the brand split plans now, and also said he only has plans as of now for four matches this year (wrestled Rey Mysterio in March, Zack Sabre Jr this month, and upcoming matches against Joe Coffey and Cody Rhodes), part of him taking a break from an ‘active’ wrestling career.

Kurt Angle in his curerent age is still the greatest pure wrestler of all time. He can wrestle circles around the youngers stars still and can do it perfectly. Have him as one the big names on Smackdown and put him with the Alphas and remake Team Angle. Also the reaction from th crowd will be huuuge.

Despite rumors of his return, it sounds like Kurt Angle will not be coming back to WWE. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims that the Olympic gold medalist won't be working for WWE again any time soon.

Meltzer says that WWE officials confirmed on Thursday that Angle will not be joining the company for their upcoming brand split.

Angle stirred up the rumors on Monday on Mark Madden's Pittsburgh radio show, saying that he had talked to Triple H and a deal was in place. The story grew to the point where there were even rumored start dates for Angle.

Angle, 47, finished up his TNA contract in March of this year, and hasn't worked with WWE since August of 2006. Despite announcing he would retire for a year, he's been working select indy dates with the likes of Rey Mysterio Jr.
