The Hype Bros earned number one contender status to the tag team titles on SmackDown Livethis week when Zack Ryder eliminated Konnor of The Ascension. That set up a match with The Wyatt Family.

Sadly, WWE immediately reported on the fact that Ryder suffered a knee injury during the match:

"We think he injured his kneecap or his patella. We think it popped out and then popped back in, so we're just going to do an MRI to make sure that there is not cartilage damage or some tendon tearing, stuff like that,” according to WWE's Dr. Chris Robinson. “Hopefully there's not and it'll be a shorter rehab period. If there is, there's a different road we might have to go down that may take longer to get him to recover."

They did not address what this means for The Hype Bros tag title shot, only to stay tuned for future updates.

We’ll let you know once that information becomes available.

Well this kinda throws things out of balance for the Smackdown Tag title picture

It appears that the Hype Bros. tag team title push will have to be put on hold for the time being. Zack Ryder, one half of the stellar tag team, has been confirmed to need knee surgery. He has no estimated date of return to the ring at the moment.

He and Mojo Rawley have seen a huge push on Smackdown after the brand split, and yet, despite his victory in the Battle Royale to earn the number one contender slot for the tag team titles against the Wyatt Family, his knee surgery will put a hamper on that push for the time being. We may see Rawley with a singles career push until Ryder returns to action.

However, the big question that remains to be answered is who will take on the Wyatt Family for the titles. The last group in the Battle Royale was The Ascension, and both them and the champions are heels, so this would likely not make for compelling enough television for WWE to push this match.

Seems like God knows that we want and deserve a better Contender for the Tag Titles. Usos, I'm looking at y'all.

Ryder and Rawly weren't going to win anyways so it really doesn't matter. I'd say let the Ascension feud with The Wyatt's as that actually seems like it could be a way better dynamic anyways. Two monster teams battling it out and if you gave The Ascension a win over The Uso's or a few other teams, it wouldn't been too hard to build them up against the Wyatt's.

A week ago in a match before Monday Night Raw, it was reported Darren Young had been injured in a match against Epico of the Shining Stars.

That match was part of the weekly tapings for Main Event, and WWE decided to go ahead and run the footage of what put Young on the shelf.

It’s not pretty, but Young himself seems to be in good spirits about it, even posting a clip to his Instagram which shows the moment of impact.

That ain’t pretty. Young reported the injury as a “hyperextension which resulted in a traumatic dislocation & fracture of the coronoid process of the right elbow.”

According to the Wrestling Observer (subscription required), the preliminary diagnosis suggests he’ll be out for six months. That estimate could change with further examination. As noted, that’s problematic both for Young and Bob Backlund, since he’d been regularly on TV as Darren’s manager.

A rash of injuries has struck WWE’s lower-tier and developmental talents recently. Tajiri was recently put out of action after hitting 205 Live, and an injury to Shane Thorne of TM-61 seems to have changed plans at Saturday’s Takeover event.

It sucks to be Darren rn. He's not getting storylines, and now he's injured. Guess he grabbed the ropes too hard then. Hope he can recover sooner rather than later because i actually like Darren and would like to see him get a mini push.

According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, The Undertaker is in need of full hip replacement surgery, however he is trying to put it off until he officially retires from in-ring competition.

Undertaker will be working his first match since having hip surgery last year when he competes in the WWE Royal Rumble match this Sunday night.

This could be a lot of days off. In a recent match, Darren Young suffered an arm injury and the match had to be stopped early on. No word was given on how severe the injury was or how long Young would be out for. Now some new details have come in about the injury and things aren’t looking good.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by way of 411mania.com, Young hyperextended, dislocated and broke his elbow at the same time while landing on the ring apron. The injury could keep him out for up to six months. This is the second major injury Young has suffered as he tore his ACL back in 2014, putting him out of action for the better part of a year.

Damn, that's fucked up. It's already bad to broke your shoulder but to also hyperextend and dislocate it? Damn, that's just nasty. See you in 6 months or so, Darren.

It's his elbow not his shoulder. Hyperextention isn't something bad, it's a movement of your joints but his elbow hyperexnteded too much which resulted in him breaking and dislocating it. #PhysiotherapyStuff

Finn Balor was evaluated by doctors over the past week and was not cleared to return to the ring. The first-ever WWE Universal Champion has been out of action with a shoulder injury since SummerSlam 2016.

There had been speculation on Finn returning as a surprise Royal Rumble entrant last weekend but The Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that it's possible Balor was never even considered for the Rumble because his target return has always been late February or early March. Balor told Sam Roberts back in early December that he was looking at WrestleMania 33 as his return date but that he could be able to come back sooner. With that said, Balor is expected to appear at WrestleMania 33 in some form.

As noted, Balor recently posted the photo below with the full list of injuries he suffered from the powerbomb into the barrier from Seth Rollins at SummerSlam, which were a labrum tear, a torn biceps, a fractured glenoid neck socket, shoulder cartilage damage and a torn pec.

Darren Young underwent surgery on February 9th in Birmingham, Alabama after suffering an elbow injury during a WWE Main Event taping in mid-January. Young is expected to be out of action for around six months, according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The injury will cause him to miss any kind of multi-man match at WrestleMania 33.
