[XFL] Xtreme Football League Discussion

Not sure if they can compete with NFL salaries, but probably CFL salaries and other smaller leagues

At first I think salaries wont be a proble. The league will be filled with people trying to prove themselves. If some become stars then the league will benefit, and therefore higher salaries will be possible.

That's a good point. Initially players will want the spotlight. Ultimately every player will have a NFL out In there contract. If they play well and make a splash they will get signed by a low level NFL team. That's the purpose for most players here. Low tiers players will appreciate the cash. Ultimately it's about getting to the NFL for cash.

So those who don't usually watch American football. Does the XFL being resurrected and the connection to Vince McMahon have you curious to at least check out the first game if it's available to you? Even if through online.
I completely missed the XFL the first time around so it only existed through mockery and jokes until the documentary was released the other year. I think i'm actually willing to give the first game a go through just to see what Vince has in mind for his vision once again.

XFL Strikes TV Deals With Fox and Disney

Quote

The XFL will broadcast half their games on ABC and Fox, the league announced on Monday.

The spring football league hopes to do better than its predecessor, the Alliance of American Football, which shut down its operations last month and face a bevy of lawsuits.

“We are thrilled to partner with ESPN and FOX Sports, two innovative media companies with extensive experience in world-class football production that will undoubtedly help us reimagine football,” said Vince McMahon, XFL Founder & Chairman. “The XFL broadcast schedule provides us with incredible reach and makes it easy for fans to watch our games consistently every weekend.”

There will be no rights fees paid by the networks, but both ESPN and Fox will hold the streaming rights to games and will handle cross-promotion plus the selling of advertisements.

The XFL's season will start on Feb. 8, just six days after Super Bowl LIV, which will be held at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, Florida. Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, St. Louis, Seattle, Tampa Bay and Washington D.C. have already been awarded franchises for the XFL.

“We look forward to showcasing the XFL on ESPN and ABC, including the kickoff game and championship during the league’s inaugural season,” said Burke Magnus, ESPN Executive Vice President, Programming and Scheduling. “Vince McMahon and Oliver Luck are two of the sports industry’s most creative and experienced leaders, and they have exciting plans for this league. We believe in their vision for the XFL, which will be a great addition to our year-round commitment to football.”

Two games will be broadcast live that day, with the first being shown on ABC and the nightcap being shown by Fox. ESPN, ESPN2 and FS1 will also broadcast games throughout the season.

The league's championship is scheduled for April 26 and will be shown on ESPN.

That is huge. There has been some companies coming around and they are popular for about a year, ex: AFL. But this, this has potential. If they do it right, with a deal with DISNEY and FOX is absolute fire. The 8 teams they announced are interesting, and the players I am guessing will be interesting. It is obviously not going to be bigger then the NFL, but for people who do not watch American Football, the NFL is in a serious low point for many reasons. Horrible referees, to many rules, etc. and I think the XFL is going to get some legit viewers and fans, one thing I do not agree with is them getting so many teams that already host NFL teams. They should of gone for some markets that do not have teams currently, but either way I am actually pretty hyped for the start of the XFL.

Is a good opportunity for guys who just need that extra boost to make an NFL team to get some reps and show what they can do. I think this will serve as the new CFL in which players who get cut jump over and try to save their carrers and prove they belong in the NFL.

Can't believe XFL is only a couple of months away. I have a feeling it's gonna be great cuz they're not out to feud with the NFL, i feel like last time that was their biggest mistake and also the fact that they didn't have a lot of good players. Now i have a feeling they could do great because NFL is a bit bigger than it was in the early 2000's.

It’s gonna be really cool seeing the XFL back. But I can only wonder if it is going to be able to survive? If it does, great for them. They surely can do better than they did last time in 2001, let’s just hope their end result isn’t the same, and they are able to exceed expectations.

If Vince also keeps his mind on the XFL i feel like they could thrive really well. WWE might suffer or get something out of this it's a bit of a 50/50 since sometimes Vince does well for the WWE but sometimes he screws up. My guess is that they're gonna ditch the whole jersey thing that they tried back in 2000 and that they're just gonna have the last names of players on the jerseys. Then again i feel like Vince might want to make the XFL more unique than the NFL so i guess we'll have to see what he has or will come up with. I also think that they're gonna keep the old team names they had because why not. The team names were good and no one really pays attention to the names anyway.

The XFL is unique and I am interested in the reboot of it, but from knowing whos the mastermind behind it and how it previously went. I am really holding my breath on becoming a fan of it. I hope it does succeed this time around because I think it would be cool to have certain players choose between the XFL and the NFL. I think it would be a cool dynamic that we have not seen in football in forever.

We're finally here. Crazy to think that we're about to see the XFL actually return for another season but i'm optimistic about it. I think the XFL has a legitimate chance to get to the "alternative" it dreams to be. If you can make the game faster, play in a different season, attract different markets, and allow players to come in out of high school, I think they'd have a shot It sounds like they're already doing legitimate research into making the game faster so check that box.

From what i understand from general knowledge overtime the NFL says you have to be 2 years out of high school to be eligible to play. Some of those high school kids don't want to go to college but they're forced into going to play school for two years. There is a player called  Kenny Robinson Jr who is going to playing a year in the XFL who is eligible for the NFL draft next and apparently is a potential hot pick. This route now, the XFL can give them an opportunity to earn some money legally before making the jump to the NFL which to a lot of potential great players could be lucrative to them. And you never know, if the snowball gets rolling, maybe those players  decide to stay and don't make the jump and the XFL really gets going.
The rules from what i've read are crazy so i'm looking forward to seeing it in action. Anyone picked their teams yet ahead of the season if they plan on watching?

XFL ROSTERS REVEALED:

Quote

All eight XFL teams have revealed their finalized rosters to start the 2020 season. The Dallas Renegades, Houston Roughnecks, Los Angeles Wildcats, Seattle Dragons, DC Defenders, New York Guardians, St. Louis BattleHawks, and Tampa Bay Vipers all announced their 52-man rosters for the league ahead of its first weekend on February 8th. You can see all the details in the below tweets.

By XFL rules, players can be signed, released or traded at any point in the season and commissioner Oliver Luck told XFL.com, “I’ll be shocked if any team has the same quarterback through Week 10 just given the nature of the game, the fact that it’s a startup and we have some good defensive players coming off the edge.”

Well XFL shut down there league and now they followed for bankrupt. But I think this is it . Will it come back? Yea I maybe see it coming back but it may not but it’s gonna be a lot different since PJ Walker is gone a lot of stars about to rise up. Lets see if PJ Walker can do what he did in XFL to the NFL.

It's sad to see that the XFL has to be cancelled due to unforseen circumstances as it was a nice alternative to NFL and it never really got to showcase what it could bring. Hopefully once quarantine is over, MAYBE we'll see a return?

Unfortunate that they filed for bankruptcy after how long they worked on getting it back up, the league was fun and it was nice it happened during the NFL dead period where no football is on. It allowed a guy like PJ Walker to get a shot to be the backup in Carolina, under Teddy Bridgewater, so it sucks. Bad situation in the world, hopefully Vince can fork up enough money in the future to get it up and running again.
