PRO WRESTLING GUERILLA 2016

For the last 13 years, Pro Wrestling Guerilla has been the place to be when we talk about the scene in SoCal. Founded by the PWG 6, a group consisting of Super Dragon, Excalibur, Scott Lost, Joey Ryan and Top Gun Talwar and Disco Machine. PWG first came to the stage in 2003, and quickly cemented themselves as a top promotion in the United States. With a who's-who list of worldwide talent coming through the doors, the Reseda fans have been getting their moneys worth. Perhaps known for their worldwide tournament named Battle Of Los Angeles held in August/September , PWG has been booming recently, hitting sell out after sellout just minutes after tickets go on sale. Their fight club is the Legion Hall in Reseda, California. The crowd of rabid, hungry people totals over several hundred. Their ring, is unforgiving, it is not merciful. They give it all their all, fighting for the PWG brand.

A new era has dawned on PWG, and two of the other biggest promotions in the world. Dave Meltzer officially broke the news that Pro Wrestling Guerilla, PROGRESS Wrestling from the UK and Dragon Gate Wrestling from Japan are now in a working agreement. Talks have been going on for weeks now, with Dragon Gate making multiple excursions to the United States as of late, and PROGRESS even delving into their US presence. This announcement could really boost the level of quality for this years Battle of Los Angeles which will feature new UK and Japanese talent. This marks the first time PROGRESS have made an agreement with an American company and also Dragon Gateś first deal with a US company since 2012 when they partnered with EVOLVE. It can also be almost guaranteed that heavy hitters from both companies will be in PWG rings soon enough. Specifically CIMA, the face of Dragon Gate has been rumoured to return to PWG, with recent tweets about a vacation to SoCal. PWG will announce the matchups for their upcoming ¨THIRTEEN¨ PPV in a weekś time

Looking forward to this. I’m not too familiar with Dragon Gate but I’ve heard about wrestlers having competed there so it’ll be cool to learn a little bit more about it. Even so, I quite like both PROGRESS and PWG, your roster looks solid and it’ll be interesting to see how you book PWG’s awesome tournaments.

PWG THIRTEEN:

Live from Reseda, California on July 29th , 2016

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

 JEFF COBB DEF. TREVOR LEE

As par  of the course here in American Legion Hall, the Reseda faithful were loud and screaming for action, the guerilla action was beginning tonight under a new banner. The camera pans to the fans where standing front row are two representatives from Dragon Gate and PROGRESS. The match kicked off and Trevor Lee made it clear that he was the PWG veteran in this match. Lee played to the crowd, he knew how to get on their every  nerve. This is only Jeff Cobb's second ever PWG appearance but he already feels like he's home in SoCal. The bout featured great back and forth action which ended at 11:03 when Cobb planted Lee with a Tour Of The Islands for the victory.

ADAM COLE DEF. TOMMY END

In Tommy End's first match in PWG of 2016, "The Dutch Destroyer" looked to make the longest reigning PWG World Champion in history fade to black. Unfortunately we're talking about Adam Cole here, a man with a wealth of talent and way too much cockiness about him. He used this to his advantage putting End off his game enough times to pick up the win. Towards the end of the match, Adam Cole would get in the face of the PROGRESS representative before the referee had to tell Cole to back down. Cole shoved the poor British man and let the referee take care of the representative. Adam Cole would get in the ring and get a cheap eye poke to End. With the momentum in Cole's favor, he put End away at 16:03 with a Panama Sunrise.

RODERICK STRONG DEF. TIMOTHY THATCHER

A mixed hero's welcome here tonight for Roderick Strong. The fans adore him like all fans do around the world. Unfortunately this match is bitter sweet. This will be Strong's final PWG match before he is to report to the NXT Performance Center., in Orlando, Florida. Timothy Thatcher was fully ready to  try and spoil this gentleman's goodbye for Roderick Strong as he looked to pick up an important for his career. Roddy was in prime shape though and he put on a technical clinic for the Reseda faithful. the PWG Crowd went nuts as Roderick countered a Thatcher Lariat with his masterful backbreaker followed by the Strong Hold at 16:25 to earn his last victory. Post match, Roderick Strong cut a promo basically thanking PWG for everything they did to get him to this point in his career. He begins a new chapter of his career but he will always remember PWG as a birthplace, a significant part of his story. Farewell, Roderick Strong.

MARTY SCURLL DEF. SAMI CALLIHAN

After dispatching of bellow Brit Mark Andrews back in May of 2016, Marty Scurll walks into THIRTEEN with one goal in mind. To defeat the ever dangerous Sami Callihan. This is Sami's turf, PWG is where Callihan made his name but Marty Scurll is no man to fall off a challenge like this. Marty Scurll is ready to go down swinging.  "The Space Cat" made an appearance but Scurll dispatched of him in a very unique fashion. Known for his finger breaking techniques, Scurll took to the ears of the cat and ripped them wholly off! Soon thereafter, Sami Callihan fell victim to the Crossface Chicken Wing at 13:07

CHUCK TAYLOR DEF. TRENT?

Two best friends turned enemies over greed. A chance at the PWG World Championship lies in the balance but these two best mates who have been through so much together, put everything aside for this opportunity. The two began very reluctant to fight each other but once one domino fell, the next did as well. Chuck Taylor took it upon himself to accept the calls of the Guerilla faithful for a fight and Trent had no choice but to follow suit. The match was violent. Steel chairs, trash cans, thumbtacks all found their way in the ring. And the match was a blood fest, the two best friends did everything for their chance to win. Both men were pierced by the tacks but at the end of the day only one could prevail and that man was Chuck Taylor who got the win after a wild 14:06 long bout with a Awful Waffle.

PWG TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS : THE YOUNG BUCKS DEF. DEATH BY ELBOW

The team called Death by Elbow, consisting of Chris Hero and JT Dunn, they looked to walk out of Reseda, California with the gold belts around their waists. This was always going to be a hard goal with their opponents being the reigning champions, the Young Bucks, but it turned to an unreachable goal. Young Bucks have been recently heralding themselves as the "Guerilla God's" and that no one can beat them. The action went back and forth with Dunn and Hero nearly claiming the title for themselves. but the Bucks were too much to handle and eventually put them away at 15:12 with a More Bang For Your Buck. The Young Bucks make defence #3 of their PWG World Tag Team Championships.

PWG WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: ZACK SABRE JR. DEF. KYLE O'REILLY

After dispatching of Roderick Strong at All Star Weekend 12 and winning the PWG World Championship for the first time. The next man he would have to face would be arguably just as tough for Sabre Jr. in Kyle O'Reilly. KOR Combat was in full action as he came flying with strikes and brought his strong style to Sabre Jr, battering Zack's chest with kicks. The action was wild and both men put on a clinic in their own respective fields. O'Reily being a brawler and Zack Sabre Jr being a technical master, the two had a matchup for the ages for the glory of being champion. O'Reilly had the match won on a few ocassions but Sabre Jr was smart enough to know how to avoid bad submission situations. In the end, Sabre Jr ducked a leg and grabbed it forcing O'Reilly to submit at 18:55 with a devastating knee bar. Sabre Jr has made his first defence of the PWG World Championship.

But what came after was a surprise to everyone. Sabre JR's celebration was cut short by Former PWG World Champion Roderick Strong. He ran out from behind the black curtain and announced that his night was not over. He had consulted the PWG Six for one last favour and they had granted it to him. With his owed rematch clause, Roderick Strong announced that ZSJ would be forced to defend against Roderick Strong, right here, tonight for the PWG World Championship.

PWG WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: RODERICK STRONG DEF. ZACK SABRE JR

The match was wild from the bell. Zack Sabre Jr was exhausted from his last bout so Roderick Strong tried to use this to his advantage. He had also fought earlier in the night so he was a little drained himself. Strong tried to get the match over as fast possible. Sabre Jr had no energy left and Strong spammed backbreakers that broke the bones and spirit of Sabre Jr. Everybody winced at every back breaker but somehow Zack wouldn;t take the pin and he kicked out at 2 on multiple occassions. The Reseda crowd was on the edge of their seats and Strong now had Sabre Jr in a favorable position. With Zack on one knee, Strong did something people never thought he'd do and and took the finger of Sabre JR and snapped it. The silence was palpable as Strong picked up Zack Sabre Jr one last time. He slammed him down and finally kept him down for 3. It took Strong a total of 7:20 to get the win over Sabre JR but the most important thing is RODERICK STRONG IS THE NEW PWG WORLD CHAMPION! The crowd is stunned, the man who was supposed to be leaving PWG for the NXT performance center is now the world champion of PWG!  Roderick Strong grabbed a microphone, he was beaming and he proudly said that he wasn't going anywhere. NXT could wait him later but he had one last PWG run in him. What a run this is going to be.
