AEW Roster & New Signings

Should be great having the voice of WCW and the voice of WWF in the same booth calling AEW and it could turn out to be one of the greatest commentary teams in wrestling today with Excalibur being the third and being a very good third might I add. I was a big fan of the sports oriented commentary in their first 3 PPV shows and I'm hoping that is something that they use carrying forward. Lets hope to see Schiavone on commentary in AEW soon

Earlier today it was revealed that Dustin Rhodes has signed a multi-year contract with All Elite Wrestling. The former WWE star, known as Goldust during his time with the company, is set to star as both an in-ring talent and a trainer. Rhodes is set to sit back and relax this weekend after not being booked for All Out, although it seems as if he could be going after a title before too long.

Great for AEW, he's a ring veteran and a recognisable name for lapsed fans which will always help them out. He and Cody I think will be great for the Tag Division and I can definitely see them winning the titles at some stage. Really liked his work thus far in AEW and I'm hoping it continues for the rest of his time there

The changes he's made in the last 15 years or so has been amazing. He went from being severely addicted to drugs, overweight, very negative personality, to his new very grateful and positive demeanour, great shape, and as far as we can tell clean. He's loved by the fans but I still think he's a very undervalued performer for his time, and he will be great in this role. Dustin is recognisable even with a different shade of coloured paint so it will be good for the company in multiple ways but as a fan just having him around somewhere on TV is good.

AEW Raids Impact Wrestling’s Production Division
AEW Impact Wrestling

Quote

All Elite Wrestling has raided the production team of Impact Wrestling, SEScoops has learned.

Impact has been outsourcing the majority of its production work to Kevin Sullivan’s KevinSully TV, a company based out of Nashville. Over the weekend, KSTV cut a deal with AEW and will be working directly with AEW lead producer Keith Mitchell.

The mass exodus of virtually its entire production division has left Impact scrambling. Impact was blindsided over the weekend when the Sullivan group notified them the working relationship was over effective immediately.

KSTV tried to secure a contract with Anthem, which would have given them a sense of stability. That never came to fruition, which understandably led to some uncertainty and left the door open for AEW to swoop in.

Impact is trying to spin the situation as if AEW only took one person, but that is not the case. Kevin Sullivan TV is composed of editors, graphic artists, sound engineers, video producers, voiceovers studios and more. They assembled all of Impacts weekly programming for domestic and international.

Over the past couple days, Impact hired a local Tennessee producer to handle the work of several people while it regroups from this latest setback.

One source who we spoke with about this story called it a “huge strategic move” by AEW and “crippling” to Impact ahead of their move to AXS TV in late October.

The situation is not without some irony, as it relates to the business practices of Impact and (parent company) Anthem Sports & Entertainment. Following Anthem’s recent purchase of AXS TV, they immediately gutted the production staff of AXS TV’s offices in Dallas and Colorado. Many very talented production people were pushed out of their jobs. Now, Impact finds itself badly in need of very talented production people.

AEW President Tony Khan Says Jake Hager Has Been Signed For A Long Time
Image result for Jake Hager

Quote

As previously reported, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jake Hager, f.k.a. Jack Swagger, made his AEW debut at the conclusion of AEW Dynamite. Since leaving WWE in 2017, Hager has been wrestling on the independent scene, and also appeared on a season of Lucha Underground.

During the post-Dynamite event scrum, Wrestling Inc. Managing Editor Nick Hausman asked AEW President Tony Khan about Hager's signing. Khan revealed that Hager has actually been signed to the company for a long time.

"You know what's pretty cool about secret keeping is that Jake's been signed for like a really long time," Khan said. "Jake's been signed to us for like a really long time now. Jake can clearly keep a secret and so can we. For quite awhile now Jake was signed."

Hager has also been busy with his MMA career, where he is 2-0 in Bellator MMA. Hager is scheduled to fight Anthony Garrett at Bellator 231 on October 25th. Wrestling Inc. asked Khan about Hager balancing his MMA career with AEW.

"It's something we've been planning for," Khan said. "He moved his camp to accommodate this, but he's also still in training and has a good schedule with that. The AEW schedule with Wednesdays allows him to make Wednesday the off day so he can train Friday to Tuesday and that's what Jake's doing right now.

"Jake's a machine. At the end he got a great reaction and for him to come in, he's different from a lot of the high flying wrestlers we have right now, he's a powerhouse and he came in and he's really exciting."

Hager appeared at the end of Dynamite, joining Chris Jericho, Santana, Ortiz and Sammy Guevara to beat down Cody, Dustin Rhodes and The Young Bucks. Khan essentially confirmed that the heels are part of a new stable.

"I thought the stable, we're going to learn more about them," Khan said.

When we asked Khan if he was confirming that the group was officially a stable, he replied, "They looked really good together, didn't they? It looked like a stable to me, the way they walked, the way they talked, the way they acted, they seemed like guys with a plan. To me, I thought that's what it might be, but we'll see."

In an age of leaks being a common occurrence in professional wrestling the fact that they were able to keep Hager debuting and actually being signed for a while now is an amazing feat. I know i didn't see it coming amongst a sea of speculative debuts from Punk, Enzo and everything else in between. They mentioned his MMA victories heavily during the aftermath of his debut on Dynamite and fair game to them for doing so.  I'm not sure how long his 2 - 0 standing will be around but right now he looks to be in phenomenal shape, and he has the the amateur wrestling credentials to be something really special in the company to add something different to the roster. I'm curious to see what he does in the company.

AEW Has Signed Former Boxing Olympian Anthony Ogogo
Image result for Anthony Ogogo aew

Cody Rhodes made an appearance at today's Southside 9th Anniversary event in the UK. Fans in attendance are reporting Rhodes announced AEW has signed former English boxing Olympian, Anthony Ogogo, 30.

Ogogo won a bronze medal (Middleweight division) at the 2012 London Olympics. He then retired from boxing in 2016 with a professional record of 11-1.

Back in June, Ogogo spoke with the Eastern Daily News about transitioning to a career in pro wrestling.

"I'm seriously considering becoming a professional wrestler, I may join one of the big companies and do some wrestling because it has always been something I've enjoyed," Ogogo said. "At first it was a bit of a guilty pleasure because most kids get to an age where it's all glitz and glam and the wrestling, if you're a kid, is exciting as you don't know it's scripted. It's an amazing show and as a kid I fell in love with it. As I grew older, I thought I would grow out of it but I never have - and if anything it's the opposite, I love it even more.

"I think for me it would tick so many boxes. I have been a massive fan of it my entire life, I'm physically - other than my eyes—in the prime of my life. I want to utilize all the years of hard work, all the time in the gym, I'm very fit, very athletic and I think I'm going to give it a go so watch this space."

Ogogo already made his wrestling debut in his hometown back in February for World Association of Wrestling (WAW). In April, Rhodes talked a bit about recruiting Ogogo in a Road to Double or Nothing (episode 12 - 6:54 mark), and we saw more of the boxer's life story.

This is a nice new addition for AEW. Its always great to see someone with a boxing background, trying to step inside a squared circle. It could lead to some pretty good clashes, for me personally I would like to see Anthony Oggogo vs Jack Hager. I feel they both could do great.

When you look up and down the AEW roster one thing stands out that's the lack of real big monsters. You can make the case for Jake Hager but having one of those really isn't enough, you always need a monster to be there for a babyface to overcome. I don't know much about this guy but I guess it's a good pickup for AEW if they're looking to bring in lesser known names and develop them into stars. I don't know if he will be a face or a heel but expect him to be billed as a legit fighter and maybe some AEW have their eye on for the future

Not gonna lie at first I was very confused by this when I first saw it mostly due to the fact that I had never seen or heard of him before. Now that I look into it more though it is a great signing for AEW. I do like seeing boxers or ufc fighters coming to pro wrestling as they usally already have a great gimmick to roll with and usually have the look you are looking for. So this could be a great signing for AEW if they use him correctly. We will just have to wait and see how it goes I guess.

On this past Wednesday's AEW Dynamite, Portuguese wrestler Shanna made her debut for the company in a loss against Hikaru Shida. The All Elite Wrestling Twitter noted she created a lot of buzz, and in response, Cody Rhodes confirmed she had signed with AEW.

"She was excellent. And she's full-time!" Rhodes wrote.

Shanna had done some rounds with the Portuguese media and it was reported she has signed with AEW for three years. Shanna first began wrestling back in 2006 and has worked for TNA, Stardom, Pro-Wrestling: EVE, and other promotions.

I liked Shanna to be honest and I think she is going to be a great addition to this women's divison. She had a great look to her and other than the botch at the end put on a great match. I actually wanted here to win this matchup but that did not happen. I hope to see AEW push her a bit in the future though as I think she could be pretty good for them.

AEW has reportedly signed another top indie star in Big Swole Aerial Monroe.

BodySlam.net reports that after her AEW Dark match against Hikaru Shida, company officials were so impressed with Swole’s performance that they offered her a contract as soon as she got backstage.

Squared Circle Sirens followed this up and confirmed that Swole has signed the contract, and AEW will be making the announcement of her signing soon.

So far, Swole has competed three times in AEW, but has yet to win.

She was part of the women’s Casino Battle Royale at All Out that was won by Nyla Rose, lost a Dark tag match with Mercedes Martinez against Allie and Sadie Gibbs taped October 30, and most recently lost to Hikaru Shida on the November 6 Dark taping.

Swole is currently Phoenix of RISE Champion and one half of the SHINE Tag Team Champions. She joins a growing women’s division that last week added Shanna to its ranks.

This is great, signing these indie staffs before wwe can. Haven’t heard of her before, but I always look forward to a fresh new talent on my screen. If they keep doing this, they could have an even more diverse roster then they already have.

She brings some needed swagger, with the way she carries herself, to the division. She moves differently from a lot of the women there now. I think her selling can be on the goofy side sometimes but I'm looking forward to seeing more of her. I wanted her to sign after the women's battle royal. They only one missing from my wishlist from that event is Mercedes Martinez. She has also been vocal on Twitter about Cedric Alexander and his treatment in WWE which i imagine for those being introduced to her for the first time is a sight to see.

Austin Gunn Signs With AEW
austin gunn signs all elite wrestling aew

Quote

Austin Gunn – the son of AEW coach Billy Gunn – is joining his dad in All Elite Wrestling.

The 25-year-old took part in a tryout for the company last week after Dynamite when he teamed with Billy in a dark match.

Things clearly went well in the tryout, as this week The Gunn Club teamed again during a taping of AEW Dark and Cody reportedly announced afterward that Austin has signed a deal.

Austin has been working the independent scene since 2017 and competed in ROH’s Top Prospect Tournament last year. He also took part in the battle royal at ALL IN.
