NXT Takeover: Chicago

Johnny Gargano VS Oney Lorcan VS TJP VS Cedric Alexander VS Lince Dorado VS Gran Metalik VS Adam Cole VS Roderick Strong (Cruiserweight title ladder match)

Takeover: Chicago opens with the Cruiserweight title ladder match. These eight men earned this opportunity with their victories in the first round of the NXT title Number One Contender's tournament. Of the eight men's entrances, the two that stand out in particular are Johnny Gargano and Adam Cole, with the audience reacting strongly to these two.

As the match begins, the eight men pair off into four duos, those being the same ones that highlighted the last episode of NXT. Gargano and Lorcan go right after Cole and Roddy, while the luchadors pair off with TJP and Cedric Alexander. The four NXT mainstays quickly spill to the outside, leaving the former 205 Live competitors in the ring. Cedric and TJP have the advantage for a second, but Lince and Gran are able to fire up and dropkick TJP to the outside, with his body interrupting the brawl between the four men on the outside. Gran and Lince whip Cedric off the ropes, and as he runs back at them, they attempt a clothesline, but Cedric ducks and suicide dives to the outside of the ring into the five other men!

tenor.gif?itemid=9894482

Lince and Gran see this and, not to be outdone, opt for a double suicide dive onto the mass of bodies, laying out all eight men early in the match.

Lince and Gran are the first two men to recover, and they immediately grab a ladder and begin setting it up. However, as the ladder is set up, Gran and Lince realize that their union can only last so long, as only one man can become Cruiserweight champion tonight. Lince and Gran begin to wrestle, making use of the ladder in the middle of the ring, and they dazzle the audience with their incredible luchador style wrestling. However, it is ultimately Gran Metalik who gets the advantage over Lince, dropkicking him into the ladder and taking Lince out of the ring and the match for the time being. Gran begins to climb, but he's quickly stopped by Cedric Alexander, who pulls him off the ladder directly into a...

End of Heartache! in a cruel twist of fate, Cedric tastes a similar medicine to what he inflicted on Gran Metalik. Roderick then begins to climb, but he's met with a brutal chop-block from TJP. As Roddy is down, TJP dropkicks his knee into the ladder, causing Roddy to crumble to the mat. TJP follows by locking Roderick in a single-leg Boston crab, with Roddy tapping out in agony, despite their being no submissions. As TJP has the move locked in, Adam Cole attempts to level him with a Last Shot as he's distracted, but TJP senses it and ducks, picking Adam Cole's leg and locking him in an Ankle Lock! Cole and Roddy are both screaming in agony with nowhere to go, but they are saved by a...

Slingshot spear from Gargano! Gargano lays out TJP, with Roddy and Cole's suffering finally ending. Gargano is the only man left as his other opponents are still recovering, and he begins to climb the ladder. The audience begins cheering on the Rebel Heart of NXT as he climbs, and just as Gargano reaches the top, Oney Lorcan rushes in and rapidly scrambles up the ladder. The tag team partners face off, knowing only one man may be Cruiserweight champion, and they begin to trade blows. They go back and forth for a bit, but soon, Oney fires up, grabs Gargano's face and gives him three stiff slaps. Gargano then falls off the ladder, to the dismay of the audience, but before Oney can capitalize, Lince Dorado jumps on the ladder from the turnbuckle! Oney and Lince trade blows, but again, Oney grabs Lince's face and delivers his signature slaps, causing Lince to fall as well. Once again, before Oney can capitalize, Gran Metalik jumps on the ladder from the turnbuckle! One final time, Oney's three slaps cause Gran to fall of the ladder, as well. After taking out three of his challengers, Oney 's path to the title finally seems set, but suddenly, TJP is there and he pulls Oney's leg through two of the rungs on the ladder, locking him in a knee bar! As Oney screams in pain, he's blasted my a massive...

Superkick! Cole wastes no time and blasts TJP with a superkick while he still has the kneebar locked in! Before Cole climbs, he decides to taunt with an "ADAM COLE, BAY-BAY," to which the audience responds kindly to. As he does this, Cedric begins climbing from out of nowhere, but Cole catches him and pulls him off the ladder. Cedric falls to a knee, and Cole tries to follow up with a Last Shot on the downed Cedric, but as Cole comes in, Cedric ducks, with Cole's knee colliding with the ladder! Cedric capitalizes with another...

Lumbar Check! Cole is down, and Cedric is all alone, his opposition all downed. Cedric begins to make the climb, and before anyone can stop Alexander the Great, he grabs the Cruiserweight championship and pulls it down.

Your winner, and NEW Cruiserweight champion, Cedric Alexander!

Alexander wins, to the surprise of the NXT audience, but they respond to the 205 stand-out happily. The audience celebrates with Cedric, clearly overjoyed at claiming the prize he's worked so hard for up to this point.

Kassius Ohno VS Aleister Black

We now shift from a chaotic eight man car crash to a battle of teacher VS student, as Kassius Ohno and Aleister Black, two of the hardest strikers in the WWE, face off to see if the protégé has surpassed the master. Black and Ohno both impressed during their runs in the NXT title Number One Contender's tournament, but neither man could out-strike Hideo Itami.

As the match begins, the audience is clearly behind the Dutch Destroyer. The match begins with a handshake between the two men, the amount of respect they have for one another clear. The bout begins with both men sizing each other up, Ohno attempting to utilize a submission style strategy to take Black off guard. However, Black has a counter for this, obviously having studied every possibility ahead of this bout. Eventually, Ohno abandons the submission strategy, and the striking is underway. Both men lay into each other with stiff, hard right hands, and on this occasion, Black takes the advantage. Black is able to stagger Ohno long enough to force the Knock-Out Artist to a turnbuckle to recover, and as he does, Black charges in. Ohno is able to duck out of the way, causing both of Black's knees to collide with the turnbuckle. Ohno sees this opportunity and begins going after the Dutch Destroyer's base, first putting him down with a chop-block, then following with a kneebar. Black is vulnerable, and Ohno's submission based strategy seems to be working out this time. Black is able to reach the ropes before he can submit, forcing Ohno to back off. Ohno gives Black time to recover, but just as Black reaches a stable base, Ohno strikes with a...

Rolling Elbow! Ohno covers Black, but Black is barely able to grab the ropes before the three count. Ohno then begins smacking his former protégé, knowing that Black has more left in the tank than this. As Black begins to stand back up, Ohno bounces off the ropes again, looking for another Rolling Elbow, but instead being met with...

tumblr_ou3421KncJ1ucdnj1o1_500.gif

Black Mass! Black quickly goes for the cover, cradling his knee as he does, and he is able to pick up the victory.

Your winner, Aleister Black!

After the bout, Black does his traditional pose of sitting in the middle of the ring, but he looks down at his former teacher as he does. As Ohno tries to crawl back up, Black stops him and shakes his hand, before pulling his teacher up. As both men stand back up, Ohno hugs Black and raises his hand, satisfied with the ability of his former student. Ohno then leaves and allows Black to celebrate, with the NXT universe firmly backing the Dutch Destroyer.

.

The Authors of Pain VS The Lucha Dragons (NXT tag team titles)

In the next bout, we see the seemingly unstoppable NXT tag team champions take on a set of former champions in the Lucha Dragons. Kalisto and Sin Cara earned this opportunity with a victory over Johnny Gargano and Oney Lorcan, but they've never faced a threat quite of the level of Akam and Rezar.

As the match begins, Akam quickly goes after Sin Cara. Cara uses his speed to duck the attacks of Akam, but as he's distracted, Rezar runs around the ring and lays out Kalisto, bashing his head against the steel steps. Cara is distracted by Rezar attacking his partner for but a second, but the second is long enough for Akam to lay him out with a vicious clothesline. Akam then pulls Cara up, with Rezar entering the ring, and they lay out Sin Cara with a brutal Last Chapter! Akam makes the cover, and in quick, destructive fashion, the Authors of Pain retain.

Your winners, and STILL NXT tag team champions, the Authors of Pain!

The Authors of Pain celebrate their most destructive victory yet, making the former NXT tag team champions look entirely out of their league. With this incredible victory in mind, is there anyone capable of stopping the Authors of Pain?

.

Asuka VS Ember Moon (NXT women's championship)

In a rematch from Takeover: Orlando, we see Asuka put her NXT women's championship on the line against Ember Moon. Up to this point, Asuka's already fought of the challenge of Kairi Sane, Bianca Belair, and current RAW women's tag team champions, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, but nobody has given Asuka the challenge that Ember Moon has. The audience reacts strongly to both women, and they both seem completely focused on the task at hand, despite the looming threat of Shayna Baszler always present.

The match begins with Asuka immediately going after Ember, no doubt remembering the Eclipse she was greeted with on the go-home episode of NXT. Asuka peppers Ember with a plethora of vicious strikes, but Ember refuses to stay down, always coming back for more. Eventually, Asuka lays her out with a hip attack, and she goes for the cover, but Ember kicks out at one, angering the Empress more. Asuka then throws Ember to the outside of the ring and begins bashing her against everything she can find at ringside that won't draw a disqualification. Asuka then sets Ember's head against the turnbuckle post and attempts a vicious kick, but Ember ducks! Asuka's leg collides with the unforgiving steel, and suddenly, Ember sees her chance. Ember rams Asuka into the ringside barricade, and as Asuka is recovering, Ember climbs the turnbuckle, following up with...

WWE-NXT-Takeover-New-Orleans-Ember-Moon-

Eclipse to the outside! Ember and Asuka are down! The referee begins counting, but neither woman is moving. Asuka and Ember finally show signs of life, but both are only able to recover at the last possible second, sliding in at the count of nine. Asuka is clearly more damaged than Ember, and Ember attempts the cover, but Asuka is able to get the shoulder up at two. Ember wastes no time, going to the top turnbuckle for another Eclipse. However, as she dives off...

Asuka catches Ember in the Asuka Lock, and there is nowhere for her to go. Unfortunately, Ember Moon is forced to submit.

Your winner, and STILL NXT women's champion, Asuka!

Asuka retains yet again against arguably her greatest challenger, and barring a surprise from the Riott Squad, Asuka will face Shayna Baszler at Takeover: Brooklyn III in the final NXT women's match.

Asuka celebrates for a bit, but realizing that this is Ember Moon's swan song in NXT, she helps the fallen challenger back up and leaves, giving Ember the ring. The audience seranades the Shenom with chants of "Thank you, Ember," and though she was unable to score victory tonight, it's clear that she's left an indelible mark on NXT history.

.

Bobby Roode VS Hideo Itami (NXT championship)

In tonight's main event, Bobby Roode defends his NXT championship against the man who won the NXT title Number One Contender's tournament, the seemingly unstoppable Hideo Itami. Itami has run through everyone he's competed against since returning from injury, and Itami looks to prove that Roode is no exception.

The bout begins with Roode immediately exiting the ring. Itami gives chase, causing Roode to run away. As Roode runs, he enters the ring, and when Itami follows, Roode begins kicking the Japanese Sensation. However, Itami shrugs these kicks off and plants Roode with one of his own, dropping the champion in one move. Roode tries to recover quickly, but Itami puts him down again with another kick. Roode tries to back away into the turnbuckle, sitting in the corner of the ring, and the referee pushes Itami off. Itami backs away, but he then charges at Roode, causing the referee to move away, with Roode taking the full force of a...

Corner+Running+Low+Dropkick.gif

Hesitation dropkick! Roode has been completely rocked by this point in the match, but Itami isn't satisfied. He places Roode in position for a second hesitation dropkick, but this time, as he runs at the champion, Roode is able to move away, causing Itami's knee to collide with the turnbuckle. Roode takes this opportunity to grind his challenger down, snuffing out any offense Itami attempts by targeting his knee. Eventually, Itami is able to finally fight back, leveling Roode with a massive dropkick. Both men are down, but this time, Itami is able to recover a bit quicker. As Roode gets back up, Itami gets reasy to place him in position for the Go to Sleep. Hideo has Roode up for the GTS, but Roode is able to shift his weight with Itami slowed by his hurt knee, planting the challenger with...

tenor.gif

Glorious DDT! Roode makes the cover, and yet again, the Glorious One retains his title!

Your winner, and STILL NXT champion, Bobby Roode!

Roode celebrates yet another successful title defense, and at this point, after beating Itami, one has to wonder if there's any way Roode can be stopped. Bobby Roode's title reign shall extend past yet another Takeover, and it's clear that if anyone wants to topple the Glorious One, they will have to step up like nobody else ever has.

New Era Championship history

Now that every active championship has been crowned an owner, I will be tracking championship history from here onward.

Note: This diary begins at the RAW after WrestleMania 33, so the history of every single championship before Mania 33 remains intact within this diary's universe. That being said, I won't be listing any championship reigns before Mania 33 in the championship history. However, everything that happened before and at WrestleMania 33 is still canon in this timeline, even if it isn't detailed here.

Money in the Bank match card

Absolution VS Maryse/The Bella Twins

As the inaugural women's Money in the Bank match took precedence for the non-champions of the main roster, this match was placed together to give both brand's women's champions an opportunity to prove themselves and prove which women's division is superior. Will the unified trio of Absolution take the victory, or will the established veterans walk away with their hands raised?

.

Heath Slater/Rhyno VS The Good Brothers (RAW tag team titles)

After The Good Brothers won the RAW tag titles against The Bar at Extreme Rules, a battle royal was held to determine their next challenger. In this battle royal, the inaugural SmackDown tag team champions pulled out the win, last eliminating Heath Slater's old friends, Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal. Though Slater hasn't been entirely focused these past few months, he seems to have his eyes firmly planted on tag title glory. Will he and Rhyno make lightning strike twice, or will Gallows and Anderson make an example of the beloved duo?

.

Finn Balor VS Samoa Joe (World Heavyweight championship)

A rivalry rekindled from NXT, the currently undefeated (on the main roster) World Heavyweight champion, Finn Balor, takes on the only man who has ever pinned the Demon, Samoa Joe. Joe earned this opportunity with a victory over Seth Rollins at Extreme Rules, and if anyone can be the man to end Balor's reign, one has to believe that Joe might be the guy. Who will walk out with the World Heavyweight championship?

.

The New Day VS The Usos (SmackDown tag team titles)

After the New Day won the tag titles at Backlash, their three opponents on that night did battle for number one contendership (though British Strong Style was taken out before the match). This led to The Usos pinning The Hardy's and having the chance to take back their tag team titles. Though the two teams had a match on SmackDown that was interrupted by The Ascension, there will be no such distractions or interference tonight, and we will see who the best tag team on SmackDown is.

.

John Cena VS Rusev (WWE championship)

After winning his seventeenth world title and knocking that accolade off his bucket list, Cena was met with a vicious Accolade from Rusev, who targeted the Franchise soon after his title win. Rusev cites Cena as the reason his career has been spiraling downward, as it was his loss to Cena at WrestleMania that kickstarted his tumble. Cena demanded that Rusev get an opportunity at Money in the Bank, and now the Bulgarian Brute has a chance at redemption. Will John Cena's title reign end early, or does he still have a bit longer in the tank at the top of WWE?

.

Sasha Banks VS Bayley VS Mickie James VS Nia Jax VS Charlotte VS Naomi VS Becky Lynch VS Kairi Sane (Women's Money in the Bank ladder match)

In the first ever women's Money in the Bank ladder match, we see eight of WWE's top female competitors look to claim this prestigious accolade. Will Sasha Banks have a chance to redeem her past title reigns? Will Bayley have the opportunity to reclaim the title she never truly lost? Does Mickie James prove that she can still perform on the level of the ladies of today? Does Nia Jax have a chance at revenge against Paige? Will Charlotte add another accolade to her impressive resume? Will Naomi look to become the first ever three-time SmackDown women's champion? Will Becky Lynch finally reclaim the title that has eluded her since her first reign? Will Kairi Sane score an incredible victory in only her second match? Which of these eight ladies will have the honor of being the first ever Ms. Money in the Bank?

.

Seth Rollins VS Roman Reigns VS Dean Ambrose VS Braun Strowman VS AJ Styles VS Baron Corbin VS Pete Dunne VS The Miz (Men's Money in the Bank ladder match)

Finally, one of these eight incredible competitors look to continue the legacy of Money in the Bank winners, with Seth Rollins looking to redeem himself for his past mistakes, Roman Reigns wishing to prove himself as the top guy in WWE, Dean Ambrose wanting to make it clear that he's much more than just the third most successful Shield member, Braun Strowman looking to claim revenge on Roman and score a world title win in his burgeoning career, AJ Styles wishing to reclaim his WWE title, Baron Corbin looking to take total control over SmackDown, The Miz wanting to redeem his past failures as WWE champion, and Pete Dunne looking to create the most impressive rookie year in WWE history. Which of these eight men walks away Mr. Money in the Bank?

Money in the Bank match card

Sasha Banks VS Bayley VS Mickie James VS Nia Jax VS Charlotte VS Naomi VS Becky Lynch VS Kairi Sane (Women's Money in the Bank ladder match)

Kicking off the show, we see the first ever women's Money in the Bank ladder match, as well as the first cross-brand match since the New Era of WWE began. In an incredible bout, showcasing the very best the division has to offer for both brands, the woman that would stand tall on this occasion proves to be The Boss, Sasha Banks, winning the honor of being the first ever Ms. Money in the Bank.

tumblr_nxpxszoKo91ukvoqyo1_400.gif

.

Heath Slater/Rhyno VS The Good Brothers (RAW tag team titles)

In the first title match of the night, we see The Good Brothers look to defend their tag team titles against the inaugural SmackDown tag team champions, Heath Slater and Rhyno. In an incredibly surprising result, the duo of Slater and Rhyno would manage to topple the heavy favorites, keeping on the same page tonight and getting the job done when it counts most. Heath Slater and Rhyno are once again tag team champions, only the second ever team to hold both the RAW and SmackDown tag team titles.

tumblr_omrtrdNv3p1vm3caoo1_400.gif

.

The New Day VS The Usos (SmackDown tag team titles)

In the second of two tag title matches, we see arguably the two best teams in the WWE right now battle it out. Unlike last time, if there are any interruptions, the perpetrator will be suspended and potentially fired, ensuring this remains a two on two bout. The New Day would prove to be the superior team on this occasion, successfully defending their titles against the former SmackDown tag team champions.

giphy.gif

.

Absolution VS Maryse/The Bella Twins

In the second of three cross-brand matches, we see the champions of the respective women's divisions do battle to prove their brand's superiority, with Absolution battling Maryse and The Bella Twins. Absolution's unity would prove to be the difference, with Sonya Deville, Mandy Rose and Paige picking up the victory for RAW. Can anyone stop this powerful trio?

tenor.gif?itemid=10648742

.

Finn Balor VS Samoa Joe (World Heavyweight championship)

In the first of two world championship matches, we see Finn Balor look to defend his title against the man who ended his record long NXT title reign, Samoa Joe. In an incredible bout between these two rivals, Finn Balor would extend his reign one PPV longer, beating Samoa Joe and proving himself to be superior than his long-time rival on this occasion.

tumblr_nqym6mXZdn1swlf6ho1_500.gif

.

John Cena VS Rusev (WWE championship)

Rusev has proven to be a major threat to John Cena's record-breaking 17th world title reign, but on this night, Cena's reign would not be ending, picking up the victory yet again over the Bulgarian Brute and extending his reign further.

OaXMT.gif

.

Seth Rollins VS Roman Reigns VS Dean Ambrose VS Braun Strowman VS AJ Styles VS Baron Corbin VS Pete Dunne VS The Miz (Men's Money in the Bank ladder match)

Finally, in tonight's main event, we see eight of WWE's brightest stars look for the opportunity to become world champion. In an incredible match with all eight men giving it their all, the man who manages to come out on top would be The Big Dog, Roman Reigns, much to the chagrin of the audience who rains down boos as he wins, ending the show on an incredibly dour note.

RAW Episode 14

RAW opens with the United States champion, Dean Ambrose. Ambrose states that although he's disappointed he was unable to win the Money in the Bank briefcase, putting over victor Roman Reigns to the chagrin of the audience, he says that his quest to prove himself as the best Shield member hasn't ended, and to do so, he will be starting a weekly United States championship open challenge to kick off RAW every week. He invited anyone who wants to take the challenge to the ring, and the call is answered by Shelton Benjamin.

.

Dean Ambrose VS Shelton Benjamin (United States championship)

After a stellar rematch between these two men, the Lunatic Fringe would come out on top, putting Benjamin away with a Dirty Deeds.

Ambrose celebrates a successful US title defense with the audience, and Benjamin is consoled by American Alpha after his loss. However, as they're in the ring, a video appears on the titantron showing SAnitY, the trio that attacked the three men in the ring last week. SAnitY's leader, Eric Young, says simply that they are the top trio in the WWE and anyone who looks to threaten that title will suffer their chaos.

.

RAW then cuts backstage to Stephanie McMahon, who says that although she's happy with Absolution proving RAW's superiority at Money in the Bank, they still have to defend their titles, and she follows up by stating that next week, the four women who competed on the RAW side of Money in the Bank will compete for number one contendership against Paige.

.

Natalya VS ???

RAW then continues with a women's division match, with Natalya entering the ring as RAW comes back from commercial. She and the entire RAW arena are surprised by her opponent, being greeted by...

tumblr_ownb5oyocg1u1ljrzo1_500.gif

Bianca Belair! Bianca Belair has made her debut on Monday Night RAW! Natalya is taken by complete surprise, and the former NXT superstar is able to capitalize, pinning the veteran in her RAW debut.

.

RAW then cuts to Sheamus and Cesaro, who say that they've heard the challenge from The Revival and they're willing to put Dash and Dawson in their place anytime they want. However, before they can continue, they're interrupted by a massive brawl between Braun Strowman and Mr. Money in the Bank, Roman Reigns, which officials and the rest of the locker room are forced to break up.

.

Heath Slater/Rhyno VS The Good Brothers (RAW tag team titles)

Finally, in tonight's main event, we see a rematch from yesterday as The Good Brothers attempt to regain their gold from the inaugural SmackDown tag team champions, Heath Slater and Rhyno. For the odd couple, lightning would indeed strike twice, as Slater and Rhyno pick up the win yet again, proving their first victory wasn't merely a fluke. RAW goes off the air with Slater and Rhyno celebrating their successful title retention, seemingly back on the same page.

The Story So Far

After WrestleMania 33, Vince McMahon announced an overhaul of WWE, citing declining ratings and loss of fan interest as his primary reason. With NXT and SmackDown receiving rave reviews before Mania, Vince has relinquished his creative control of WWE to Stephanie McMahon for RAW and Shane McMahon for SmackDown, with Triple H operating as commissioner of NXT alongside NXT General Manager, William Regal. The rosters would be redrafted by RAW and SmackDown, with 205 Live integrated into NXT, and WWE would witness a fresh start.

RAW:

Singles stories: The first episode of RAW would be the site of Finn Balor winning the newly reinstated World Heavyweight championship in a fatal four way with Brock Lesnar, Kevin Owens and Goldberg. Balor would pin Goldberg and end his career. Lesnar would venture into UFC after this loss, leaving WWE unsure of when he will return. Kevin Owens would try to topple Balor, but failed. Seth Rollins and Samoa Joe renewed hostilities, with Joe coming out on top. Joe would challenge Balor at Money in the Bank, but he also fell to The Demon. After losing to Joe, Rollins decided he needs to overcome his demons from his past, vowing to go through his entire career in the WWE so far and avenge his losses and failures, starting with a win over Kevin Owens and moving on to Money in the Bank. In the meantime, Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman rekindled their heated feud, with Strowman picking up a victory over Roman. Roman would assault Braun and injure him after the match, and not long after, Roman would win the Money in the Bank briefcase. Dean Ambrose would win the US championship again soon after coming to RAW, and he made his intentions to be the best Shield member clear, taking on all challengers with victories over Sami Zayn and the returning Shelton Benjamin. As this happened, Zayn has tried desperately to score championship gold on the main roster, but has failed at every turn.

Tag teams: When RAW announced the restart, it was decided that a tag team tournament comprising the entire roster was the way to go. This tournament was won by Gallows and Anderson, last defeating The Bar. During this tournament, we saw Heath Slater and Rhyno show some tension, as the returning Drew McIntyre reunited with Jinder Mahal, attempting to recruit Slater and bring back 3MB. Slater would decline, managing to earn a chance at The Good Brothers alongside Rhyno and picking up the tag team titles at Money in the Bank, though the threat of Mahal and McIntyre still looms. Meanwhile, Shelton Benjamin began managing American Alpha, seeing the potential of the young duo and looking to guide them in the right place. American Alpha has caught the ire of SAnitY, the other trio on RAW, and the two teams seem set for a collision course down the line. Finally, The Revival, after an impressive showing in the tag team tournament, called out the recently floundering duo of Sheamus and Cesaro, looking to make their names off of The Bar.

Women: The discussion of the women's division revolves around three women: Paige, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, the trio of Absolution. After Mania 33, Nia Jax, Sasha Banks and Bayley earned the chance to compete for the RAW women's title, but the match was ruined by Absolution. After beating Nia Jax, Paige would take her spot in the RAW women's title rematch, picking up the win and the title at Extreme Rules. As this happened, the rest of the RAW women's division engaged in a mini tag team tournament to crown the inaugural RAW women's tag team champions, a tournament won by Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville by beating Nia Jax and Tamina. Absolution defended RAW's honor in a cross-brand match at Extreme Rules, while Nia, Sasha, Bayley and Mickie James looked to win the inaugural women's Money in the Bank ladder match, a match that would be won by Sasha Banks.

.

Singles: Over on SmackDown, the WWE championship was decided in a match between the four former WWE champions who never received WWE championship rematches. AJ Styles, Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt and John Cena battled it out at Backlash, with John Cena scoring his 17th world title, breaking Ric Flair's record. Cena announced that his career would end at Mania 34, and he has three things left to do with it before it ends. Cena would defend the WWE title against Rusev at Money in the Bank. Meanwhile, Randy Orton was attacked by Bray Wyatt soon after the title match and was carried away by the Wyatt Family member, with their feud seemingly not over yet. AJ Styles would set his sights on Money in the Bank, qualifying for the match alongside Baron Corbin, The Miz and British Strong Style's Pete Dunne. The Miz won the Intercontinental championship in an eight man battle royal at Backlash, and has since managed to win the crowd over to his side with his recently performances, though Money in the Bank glory eluded him yet again. Baron Corbin set his sights on the Intercontinental title and that appears to be where his sights are set after Money in the Bank.

Tag teams: The SmackDown tag team titles were announced to be crowning their new title holders in a fatal four way tag match. The teams that qualified were the New Day, The Usos, The Hardy's and British Strong Style's Jack Gallagher and Tyler Bate. BSS made their debut on SmackDown with Pete Dunne assaulting former SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan as he was announcing his return to action, concussing him and leaving his career in doubt. BSS has since feuded with Tye Dillinger, though Dunne currently holds two victories over the Perfect Ten. In this four-way match at Backlash, it would be the New Day who scored the win. The Uso's would earn a shot against them against The Hardy's, but their match was interrupted by The Ascension, a team that had been recently on the upswing. The rematch would come at Money in the Bank, with the New Day retaining. As this happened, The Hardy's would make it clear that their expedeetion of gold isn't yet complete and they want to hold the final set of tag titles that they haven't yet won in their illustrious career.

Women: The SmackDown women's title scene would be dictated by two battle royals to determine the competitors. The first was won by Charlotte, and the second was won by the recently returning Maryse. In an upset, Maryse would score the victory and celebrate with her husband the same night he reclaimed the Intercontinental championship. As this happened, the SmackDown women's tag titles would hold a mini-tournament, culminating in The Bella Twins VS The IIconics, a match the Bella's would win. Their feud has not yet ended, with The IIconic's having their sights set on the titles after Money in the Bank. During this tournament, we would see Naomi turn on her former friend, Becky Lynch, and pick up a victory over the Lass Kicker at Backlash. Naomi and Charlotte would face Maryse in a triple threat for the SmackDown women's title, but Maryse eked out the victory on that occasion. This left only the inaugural women's Money in the Bank ladder match, with Charlotte, Naomi, Becky Lynch, and the debuting Kairi Sane to round out the field. Sadly, none of these women would score the victory.

.

Singles: NXT decided not to vacate any of their titles, unlike their main roster counterparts, with a brand-wide tournament created to decide the next challenger for Bobby Roode's title. We would see many debuts in this tournament, but the returning superstar, Hideo Itami, would come out on top. However, when he faced Bobby Roode at TakeOver: Chicago, the Glorious One would reign supreme. During this tournament, the other star that caught everyone's attention was Aleister Black, making it all the way to the semi-finals before falling to Hideo. His former mentor, Kassius Ohno, made his wishes for a match with Black clear, and even though they both failed to win the tournament, they would agree to a match at Chicago, won by Aleister Black. Outside of the main title scene, the Cruiserweight championship was announced to be moving to NXT, alongside the entire roster of 205 Live. During the NXT NOC tournament, Regal announced that any cruiserweights who won their first round matches would earn a spot in a Cruiserweight title ladder match at Chicago. Nine Cruiserweights would win their first round matches, but Hideo Itami would revoke his spot after winning the entire tournament. This left Lince Dorado, Gran Metalik, Johnny Gargano, Oney Lorcan, Cedric Alexander, TJP, Roderick Strong, and Adam Cole to battle it out, with Cedric Alexander scoring the victory at Chicago.

Tag teams: The Authors of Pain continued to show their incredible power and ability, racking up victories over every team that stepped up to the plate. However, the undefeated streak of both men would end in the NXT NOC tournament, losing in individual singles matches to Kassius Ohno and Aleister Black. Despite this, the AOP's tag team dominance was never in question, and the question of who could possibly topple the monsters was on everyone's mind. Johnny Gargano's partner, Tommaso Ciampa, was injured in their last match with AOP, and Gargano has since tried to find a partner, eventually settling on Oney Lorcan. As this happened, The Lucha Dragons returned to NXT due to being part of 205 Live, and they haven't seemed to miss a beat. DIY 2.0 and the Lucha Dragons competed for number one contendership, with Kalisto and Sin Cara coming out on top. However, they would be utterly decimated by the Authors of Pain at Chicago, losing in half a minute.

Women: On the NXT after Mania 33, Regal announced that the women's division in NXT would be no more after TakeOver: Chicago III, the final NXT women's match happening on that night to determine the final NXT women's champion. As such, every woman on the NXT roster would have a chance to compete against Asuka for the women's title, with the loser then moving up to the main roster. Sonya Deville, Mandy Rose, Kairi Sane, Bianca Belair and Ember Moon all stepped up to the plate, but Asuka fought them all off. However, during this, Shayna Baszler would make her debut and announce that due to her mainstream appeal, she was able to get an NXT women's title match written into her contract at Chicago III. Shayna would face every woman that Asuka defended her title against and beat all of them in impressive fashion except Ember Moon, who was able to draw a DQ out of the Queen of Spades. As of this moment, Asuka and Shayna appear to be set for a collision course in two months at Chicago III, but the recently formed trio of the Riott Squad, that being Liv Morgan, Sarah Logan and Ruby Riott, look to change that. Will one of these three women wrest the NXT women's title from Asuka, or are we in store for Asuka/Baszler at Chicago III in the final NXT women's match?
