WWE Fast Lane 2017

Week 3, December 2016 | New England | 1,100,000 Buys | 90 Show Rating

ZVTYihL.png

WWE Fast Lane kicks off with Triple H in-ring. He says that he is a businessman when all is said and done and the decisions he makes for The Authority, ones which affect the landscape of Money Night RAW, he does with business in mind. He says that Dolph Ziggler attempting to end The Authority is an attack on WWE as a whole and the business it does. He is interrupted by RAW General Manager Christian, who comes to defend Dolph Ziggler. Christian says that although Triple H thinks what he is doing is best for business, it is not. What he does effects people like Dolph Ziggler and it makes his job as General Manager harder. Christian says he is tired of Triple H running his evil schemes and he would do anything along with Dolph Ziggler to end his business, even if that meant putting the General Manager position on the line.

Nikki Bella is celebrating retaining the RAW Women's Championship when Sasha Banks attacks from behind. She proceeds to beat down Nikki Bella while Charlotte Flair recovers at the opposite side of the ring. After Banks is finished with Bella, she turns her attention to Flair, that is before Bayley makes herself involved in the post-match brawl as she enters the ring and tries to talk Banks out of attacking the downed Flair. Suddenly, Flair hits Bayley from behind, while Bella also enters the ring and tackles Flair to the mat. The four women proceed to brawl with each other until security enter to break the quadruple up.

He speaks about how Brock Lesnar and by extension Paul Heyman have acted since then. Goldberg accepts Brock Lesnar's challenge for WrestleMania. Paul Heyman walks out and he admits that Goldberg has been getting the better of Brock Lesnar. He names Survivor Series and the Royal Rumble match as examples but he proclaims that changes tonight. Dolph Ziggler emerges as the winner due to count out, but Triple H instantly begins laying into 'The Showoff' shortly before Seth Rollins joins in. The duo beat down and set Dolph Ziggler up for a Curbstomp, until Randy Orton appears from nowhere to RKO Rollins where he stands! Triple H is shocked, as Randy Orton stands from downing Rollins and the two instantly come to blows! Triple H and Randy Orton brawling as Seth Rollins recovers on the outside. Triple H gets the better of Orton initially but Ziggler comes in with a well-timed super kick to send 'The Game'' over the top rope. The Authority recollect on the outside as Orton and Ziggler hold the ring. Christian comes out from the entrance ramp and says that Triple H has pushed him to his limits but he is sick of it. He announces a tag team match set for WrestleMania. Dolph Ziggler and Randy Orton vs. Seth Rollins and Triple H. If The Authority win then Triple H will become General Manager of RAW. If Ziggler and Orton win, then The Authority must disband and Seth Rollins will be traded to SmackDown!

Chris Jericho's Festival of Friendship

Chris Jericho's theme song hits, though the music has been altered. 'Y2J' emerges with a Brazilian carnival behind him. Women dressed in red and white feathers while a marching band emerge at their side, playing the drums and the French Horn with other instruments. Chris Jericho enters the ring and he welcomes the audience to the Festival of Friendship. He says a lot of emotions and secrets will be laid out on the line tonight and that the very depths of his friendship with Kevin Owens will be put out for the world to see. Before he can continue he says he needs the man of the night here. He gestures for Kevin Owens to arrive and he does on horseback. Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens share a hug. Jericho talks about his friendship with Owens and their run as a tag team over the past six months. He reminisces about victories over The Dudley Boyz, Enzo Amore and Big Cass, and brings up their individual triumphs such as Chris Jericho winning the Royal Rumble and Kevin Owens winning the World Heavyweight Championship. Jericho reveals some gifts he has bought Kevin Owens such as an alternate renaissance painting of the Sistine Chapel, Jericho and Owens' faces edited onto the nude bodies. He thanks Kevin Owens for being a friend and helping him through the past six months, saying that teaming with Owens was one of the highlights of his careers.

Kevin Owens reveals he also brought a gift, though it isn't as expensive or as extravagant as the gifts Chris Jericho bought. Kevin Owens hands Chris Jericho a list. On the back of the list printed in bold it says 'The List of Jeri-KO.' Chris Jericho looks emotional. Kevin Owens says that he watched Jericho as a teenager and while he was working the independents. He calls Chris Jericho a hero of his childhood, and says that he could retire right now and be happy because he shared a ring as a partner of Chris Jericho. He talks about WrestleMania and how both Owens and Jericho will leave as champions. He says that they'll end the night with the World Heavyweight Championship and the WWE Championship and go down in history as the most coveted tag team of all time. Chris Jericho gestures for a hug, but as Kevin Owens walks in...

Chris Jericho hits a 'Codebreaker' on Kevin Owens.

Chris Jericho betrays Kevin Owens! Owens is laid out as Jericho jumps on him and begins throwing punches and elbows into Owens. He stands before picking Owens up and running him face first into the painting he revealed earlier in the night. Chris Jericho hits another 'Codebreaker' on the unconscious form of Kevin Owens. He then picks up the List of Jeri-KO before signing Kevin Owens' name into the paper, throwing the list and pen atop of Owens' downed form. Jericho gestures for a microphone before telling the audience that he'll be main eventing WrestleMania against Kevin Owens, as he's using his Royal Rumble win to go for the World Heavyweight Championship.

WWE Championship: Dean Ambrose (c) vs John Cena
A new WWE Champion was crowned at the Royal Rumble but it was the following actions that sent shock waves throughout the WWE Universe with Dean Ambrose  attacking Roman Reigns after his former friend attempt to protect Ambrose and now instead leaving his road to Wrestlemania uncertain. But now with Roman Reigns out of the picture Dean Ambrose had two  new potential issues present  in its place as for the first time he would be facing John Cena one on one after the latter survived the Smackdown Gauntlet for the opportunity. And on RAW the Royal Rumble winner Chris Jericho teased himself crossing over to face Dean Ambrose for the WWE Championship.

John Cena has been candid and will be the first to openly admit that 2016 hadn't worked to his favour since being drafted high with the reintroduction of the brand split. As the labelled face of WWE he has been working between his blooming film career and his passion for wrestling continuously but with each opportunity and success he wasn't able to reach the top of the hill again. After wining the gauntlet John Cena reflected in an interviewer what it would mean to him personally to tie Ric Flair's sixteen World Championship reigns historical record and how much respect he has for the Nature Boy. Clarifying to him it isn't about if it is about when...and "His time is now". All while Dean Ambrose looked to risk well being and throw caution to the wind all to keep a hold of the WWE Championship. A man fixated on supremacy, the reigning champion took issue to the materialistic side of John Cena - his face on shirts, toothbrushes, hand-wash - it disgusted Ambrose who promptly burned what he had collected during an offsite live vignette. . Warning Cena that this match at Rebellion will be a lesson of humility as they go back to basics. Suddenly John Cena in street clothes appeared in the shot behind Ambrose who didn't have time to react before Cena begun his assault as the two brawled around the parking lot outside of the arena.

AJ Styles vs The Big Show
The end of AJ Styles championship reign came at a price as The Phenomenal One attempted to take out Dean Ambrose in retaliation to the loss but found himself instead on the receiving end of a spear from Roman Reigns. With no opportunity to enter the Royal Rumble that night the former champion was working from square one again. Come Smackdown later that week Styles was not wasting anytime in solidifying himself as the true Number One Contender, interrupting The Big Shows meeting with General Manager Daniel Bryan to demand his name be at the top of the list for a rematch. The Phenomenal One argued his case though Big Show didn't take being cut off lightly, pushing the former champion back as Daniel Bryan stepped in before anything escalated.
The fuse had been lit though and despite rejecting Austin Aries offer to be his tag team partner in that nights main event, trying to use the  known animosity in his favour he wouldn't be scarce that night - taking advantage and surprising the post match celebrations with an attack on Big Show and soon after John Cena which ignited into a brawl between all involved.

Not allowing to be dictated on who to name the next contender a gauntlet was set with the order distributed at random. AJ Styles had a set mindset to reclaim his place at the top of the brand and nothing was going to stand in his way . A new mission as well to put to rest part time superstars such as John Cena who recently returned from filming a part in an upcoming film. The stage was set and John Cena was able to overcome Big Show and Kofi Kingston before meeting AJ Styles in the main event of the night. Following up on his words of warning it was a hard fought match but in the end the former champion fell to John Cena.

Irritated and now without a path to his championship his anger increased at the state of the brand he had fought hard to maintain without recognition in his mind. Talking freely about his frustrations about superstars waltzing in and out. Highlighting both John Cena & Big Show as superstars who could take months off and be handed opportunities on a silver platter - sighting in particular Big Show as a "overweight, past-it" wrestler. This aggression translated to the ring later that night in the main event as Styles put on an aggressive performance, almost disqualifying  himself but even in victory it was Big Show who would return the favour from the previous week, knocking out AJ Styles out cold in response.
Shane McMahon stepped in and announced the two superstars will settle it without the continued chaos at WWE Rebellion. The Phenomenal One vs The World's Largest Athlete.

Bray Wyatt - Eradicating Illusions
Iron Man. The two words to describe the performance from Bray Wyatt at the Royal Rumble after entering at number 5 and lasting nearly an hour before being eliminated by John Cena after Rey Mysterio assisted with a 619 set-up. Next to him, the Black Sheep Braun Strowman had an impressive debut eliminating legend The Undertaker from the match but himself being outed by the combined effort of Chris Jericho, John Cena, Cesaro.

After the event went off the air Rey Mysterio was attacked by The Wyatt Family as he looked to leave the arena, footage captured by security cameras say Braun Strowman lift the luchador as he was thrown against the security gate and left to be attended by concerned onlookers. The end to his Royal Rumble run had see off Bray Wyatt who after finally returning to the ring against superstar Kalisto instructed Braun Strowman to choke out the superstar as Wyatt took it upon himself to preach on the microphone about men hiding away and the plan to decimate illusions. This vengeful tirade would continue as he targeted Sin Cara who demanded a match following the attack on Kalisto. Tearing away the mask he would parade it, hanging off of his lantern as a prize of war. The Lucha Dragons just the recent victims for Wyatt but at Starrcade will this war path continue?

Smackdown Women's Championship: Paige (c) vs Carmella
Post-Royal Rumble the updates from WWE.com confirmed that Becky Lynch would be uncleared from an in ring competition and a return date is unconfirmed though that didn't stop the Lasskicker from vowing to return stronger during a pre-recorder interview.

On the other side of the story, Paige had finally completed her long driven goal, her first championship victory in almost three years and the 25 year old was on top of the women's division once again but her celebration wasn't able to get underway before Shane McMahon booked a triple threat to choose her first challenger for the upcoming Rebellion PPV. Carmella defeated Emma and Naomi later that night and the match was set. Paige would emerge from the commentary table as she stared down with the challenger from the ramp, helping her friend Emma to the back.

During press junkets the flaming was on as Paige compared herself to the relatively new Carmella who was drafted from NXT during the recent brand split draft. Going out of her way to highlight herself as accomplishing all she could during her time on the brand and labels Carmella as an "NX-Reject". Defeating Naomi during a non-title bought, she alongside her friend Emma would attempt to make an example of the GLOW Queen ahead of Rebellion but Carmella was quick to  make he save aiding Naomi.
In the aftermath of the save Naomi didn't look thankful,  instead irritated but that didn't stop her from intervening as Emma & Paige cornered Carmella the following week backstage in an attempt of intimidation. Naomi was focused on one thing and that was wanting to get her revenge for the previous week.  She opened the challenge to either of them to step into the ring but what she didn't expect was for Carmella to cut in and challenge them to a tag team match instead. The challenge was accepted  without much say from Naomi and , to the surprise of many were able to send Paige & Emma packing with Carmella gaining a pinfall over the reigning champion in a roll up.

This new found partnership was proving to be successful, though it was being pushed mostly by Carmella as the 'Staten Island Princess' of looked to keep each others back, offering to be at ringside for her matches and then in return asked for Naomi to be at ringside for hers. In the mean time this wasn't sitting well with Nia Jax. The dominant competitor similarly from NXT previously confronted Naomi about cutting dead weight before it hurts her career - but soon confided in her that she understood her motive. Playing the weak to hit the freeway to a future championship opportunity. Keep your enemies close. A conversation overheard by Carmella unbeknownst to either of them.

As Carmella gained momentum over the weeks leading to the event, the cross-hairs of this impromptu working partnership and Paige & Emma not allowing Carmella to rest without reminding her of who the dominant champion is -  Who will leave WWE Rebellion as Smackdown Women's Champion?

WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championships: El Dorado (c) vs The New Day
The second half of 2016 had been the year of El Dorado on Smackdown. Two-Time Smackdown Tag Team Championships and a dominant feature of the show, the group felt on top of the world. Though that didn't translate to Royal Rumble success sadly with the two of them being able to gain three eliminations between the two of them but being eliminated by Cesaro & John Cena respectively.

The last month since recruiting new member Andrade 'Cien' Almas the duo had been putting him to the test on Smackdown Live with exhibition matches with The Miz & Alberto Del Rio grading him from the commentary table. Alongside those matches there were also tests of character, a recent example being following a WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship defence the duo encouraged Almas to beat down the fallen Prime Time Players.

Later that night The Miz & Daniel Bryan got into an argument backstage after it was revealed that Andrade's request to compete in the gauntlet that night had been rejected and that the participants had already been set leaving El Dorado high and dry. The New Day who were in the office as El Dorado entered, teased the group as they predicted a win for Kofi Kingston who was picked to participate. During the match Kofi Kingston would come face to face with John Cena but just as he was gaining the upper hand El Dorado descended on the ring costing the New Day member the match, resulting in a brawl breaking out between the two factions as John Cena looked to finish the night.

Over the next few weeks the two stables of Smackdown would clash in back and forth competition with both sides boasting victories and El Dorado's problems with management increasing as the group would declare the brand poorly run with recent decisions being made (coincidentally against them), escalating to the point where they were escorted out of the building following a brief confrontation. As one of the teams El Dorado defeated at Summerslam  to become the inaugural champions, New Day look to remind Smackdown and WWE as a whole why they are the longest reigning tag team champions in the companies history - will they be able to dethrone El Dorado and finally push back their ego or will the golden stable stay golden at WWE Rebellion?

The fallout to WWE Fast Lane was spectacular, Chris Jericho emerging to thunderous boos, slating Kevin Owens for being selfish, narcissistic and for making his time over the past six months in WWE nothing short of miserable. Chris Jericho revealed he never signed to compete for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. He instead signed to face Kevin Owens for the World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of WrestleMania! Later on in the night, a more villainous Chris Jericho defeated Rusev in the main event. Chris Jericho would also compete in the main event of the following RAW, this time taking on Dolph Ziggler. Chris Jericho was victorious, not without the help of The Authority. But, as The Authority took to the ring Kevin Owens' theme music hit to an explosive reaction, as he sprinted down the ramp and, with a little help from Dolph Ziggler, fended off the malicious Authority and his former tag team partner in Chris Jericho. Kevin Owens opened the show the following RAW, calling Chris Jericho to the ring, questioning why Chris Jericho would ruin their friendship and throw it away. The answer was simple, Chris Jericho revealed, he wanted to compete and best Kevin Owens at WrestleMania, exposing him. Chris Jericho labelled Kevin Owens self-centered, insisting he was going to win the World Heavyweight Championship come WrestleMania 33.

Chris Jericho would compete in action as WrestleMania crept closer, besting Jason Jordan in mere minutes. Post-match he called Kevin Owens to the ring, goading him, telling the audience that he'd injure Jason Jordan should Kevin Owens didn't appear. Owens did, initially gaining the upper hand in a brawl. But, Jericho managed to slither a steel chair into the ring and proceeded in assaulting the unsuspecting Kevin Owens, beating him down with the steel chair! The go-home RAW featured a huge six-man tag team match. Chris Jericho promoed before the match, claiming he outsmarted Kevin Owens last week and that he'd do the same at WrestleMania. The team of Jericho, Seth Rollins and Kane found success against Dolph Ziggler, Randy Orton and Kevin Owens. However, post-match a huge brawl ignited, two feuds colliding, and a vicious Kevin Owens, incensed with the treatment he had received, brutalised Chris Jericho, leaving him out cold six days from their huge match at WrestleMania.

With this match made at WWE Fast Lane, first came the contract signing, between Christian's team of Dolph Ziggler and Randy Orton and Triple H and his protege, Seth Rollins. Like all contract signings in the WWE, it ended in disaster. But it would be Christian who caught Seth Rollins with a kill switch, stepping out of his general manager role and getting physical with the RAW superstar to the surprise of everyone. Naturally, Stephanie McMahon was enraged. The commissioner of RAW temporarily suspended Christian of his general manager duties and revealed he would get them back after WrestleMania, should Dolph Ziggler and Randy Orton win. Speaking of Ziggler, he competed in the main event, losing to Chris Jericho and being beat down post-match, until Kevin Owens returned to a loud cheer, clearing house and helping Ziggler in the process. Dolph Ziggler and Randy Orton would compete the following week, toppling The Bar. Post-match, Kane returned, and assisted The Authority to beat the duo down.

The following RAW, Seth Rollins and Triple H would antagonise Christian, questioning if he's mentally fit to be RAW general manager. He was antagonised to the point of once more getting physical with Seth Rollins, but, with Kane at ringside, he was overpowered. It didn't take long for Dolph Ziggler and Randy Orton to emerge from behind the curtains. A huge brawl then broke out. The main event of the show saw Ziggler topple Kane. Stephanie McMahon would then make Christian and Kane the 'ringside enforcers' for the tag team match taking place at WrestleMania. The go-home show, Dolph Ziggler, Randy Orton and Kevin Owens would lose to the trio of Chris Jericho, Kane and Seth Rollins in the main event. A brawl would occur post match, the losing team gaining the advantage heading into the biggest show of the year.

A feud ongoing since Survivor Series. Paul Heyman would open up the RAW following WWE Fast Lane, with the match already set. He warned that Brock Lesnar would not be dominated like he was at WWE Survivor Series. He said that should Goldberg choose to step between the ropes and face 'The Beast' again, his career would end. Goldberg would appear a fortnight later to address these claims, as well as address his availability for WrestleMania. He did indeed show up, saying he'd be more than happy to step between the ropes again to beat Brock Lesnar's ass. But, he didn't want the affair to end in disqualification like it did at Survivor Series. So, he told Stephanie McMahon to either make the bout No Disqualifications or to forget about it happening whatsoever. Stephanie McMahon obliged, and one of the biggest feuds of the year got even higher stakes. Goldberg would show up the following RAW, telling the audience that he'd be there to meet Brock Lesnar on the go-home show, and he warned that Brock Lesnar might not be capable of showing up to WrestleMania should he get his hands upon him. Brock Lesnar, Goldberg and Paul Heyman were all present on the final RAW before WrestleMania. Paul Heyman reiterated that Brock Lesnar wasn't in the mood and should Goldberg try anything, he'd end him there and then. The two behemoths brawled to close out the show, Goldberg gaining the advantage before spearing Brock Lesnar through the LED set as the entire RAW set collapsed on top of the two Heavyweight combatants.
