BrendenPlayz Pokémon Showdown Tournament - Season V

Recommended Posts

With everybody having submitted their teams, the fixtures can be found below. Participants will have a week to complete each fixture, meaning the tournament will last six weeks taking into consideration the final and the third place matches. The discord server I set up can be used to seek out your opponents and figure out a time where you both can be online and battle. If participants fail to complete a match up, neither will receive a point, unless one participant can prove they attempted to make the match up. Once you have completed a fixture you can save a replay of the match on the Pokémon Showdown site and post it in the appropriate place on the discord. This replay will be used to verify a clear winner and loser of the first round battles and also to spot if anybody is cheating by breaking the rules. Replays will be added to the active fixture list which will be below. When the groups are finished, if participants are drawing for top or second place, then their previous fixture will determine who goes through to the final or to the third place match up.

Hi forum friends. Although this diary hasn't been "updated" in a little over three weeks, the tournament is very much active. We have just finished week three in the tournament and I have been updating every match result via uploading replays next to the match, putting the winner in bold.

GROUP A (Week three)

Monda - 3 points
FDS - 2 points
Mikey - 2 points
Ark Universe - 1 point
I Can't Odd - 1 point
Blade - 0 points

GROUP B (Week three)

Sheridan - 3 points
Alex Costa - 2 points
Meko - 2 points
Gwynfro - 1 point
Hans - 1 point
Arius - 0 points

Mikey vs. Monda is setting up to be a clash of the titans, if the latter wins he has all but confirmed his place in the finale. Blade is looking to play spoiler against FDS, the Season I champion still very much in the running to finish top of the group, while I Can't Odd and Ark Universe are fighting for respect, both with an outside chance of finishing second place depending on other results. Alex Costa vs. Meko is looking to be the match with the most on the line in week four, with the leader of Group B holding wins over the both of them, the winner will have a strong chance of finishing in the top two. Gwynfro also has a chance of finishing in the top two, but Arius will be looking to spoil his fun as they meet, while group leader Sheridan faces Hans and will be looking to confirm her place in the finale with a victory, should Hans win he still has a chance to finish top also.

Both Group A and Group B standings have been finalised, with the final set of fixtures taking place last week. The overall standings can be seen below.

Monda won all of the matches he played, finishing with a record of four wins and one no contest. FDS and Mikey finished joint on wins and losses, both having three wins and two losses but FDS emerged victorious when the two met in week three of the tournament. Odd finished with a respectable two wins and two losses, sharing a no contest result. Upset of the tournament goes to Blade who was able to gain a win over FDS in week four of the tournament, though newcomer Ark Universe finishes above Blade having won the fixture when the two met. Monda advances to the season two grand finale, while reigning champion FDS will compete in the third place play-off.

Sheridan was the only competitor to finish with a 100% win record in the group stage, while newcomer Alex Costa finishes in second with a positive four wins and one loss record. Meko finishes with a respectable record of three wins and two losses. Arius, Gwynfro and Hans all shared wins over each other, as well as sharing their records of one win and four losses. This means that the group was sorted by alphabetical order, thankfully not affecting the finale stage of season two. Sheridan will meet Monda in the finale, while Alex Costa advances to the third place play-off bout with FDS. These matches should take place over the next week, the third place play-off ideally being placed first.

@Monda (Normal) vs. @Sheridan (Ground) - Season II Grand Finale.

@FDS (Steel) vs. @Alex Costa (Poison) - Season II Third Place Play-Off.

Thank you everyone who has competed in season II of the BrendenPlayz Pokémon Showdown Tournament, while we had less participants we played a lot more fixtures and I am pleased that all but one was completed. It is interesting that Ground and Poison types have once more reached the final four of the tournament. I'd like to thank FDS and Odd a bunch for helping me manage the tournament and for coming up with rulings. I'd also like to thank people like Blade and Meko who have been active a lot in the discord channel.

I am interested in doing a third season of the BrendenPlayz Pokémon Showdown Tournament, though I may take a back seat and allow someone like FDS or Odd to come into the tournament with fresh ideas and a better understanding of competitive play. I know the two ideas up for debate are holding a Little Cup, which are first evolution with a combined stats rating of under five hundred, and also the idea of doing a doubles tournament. I know the idea of going back to a single, knockout tournament has been discussed also. Good luck to the final four participants of the season II tournament and thanks to everyone else for competing!

The BrendenPlayz Pokémon Showdown Tournament - Season II winner is... @Monda!

Alex Costa (Poison) defeated FDS (Steel) to win the
BrendenPlayz Pokémon Showdown Tournament third place play-off.

This brings a close to the second season of the BrendenPlayz Pokémon Showdown Tournament. Although I said most of what was needed to be said in the post above I wanted to thank all twelve participants for their activity and contributions to making the tournament a success. There was some iconic moments, from Blade beating FDS to Arius grinding out a slow and painful win against Gwynfro. The tournament shall be taking a little break ahead of Survivor Series on the forums, giving everyone a chance to concentrate on that as well as rest from the action of this season. Congratulations to Monda again, here's looking towards season three.

Season III while remaining as a monotype format, the pokemon useable in this format will be changed to the Little Cup Format as picked by the season II winner of the tournament @Monda. As similar to last season’s tournament rulings He along with Myself, @Sheridan and @Alex Costa are confirmed for Season III due to us finishing in the top four of the tournament. Similar to last season we would be aiming for twelve competitors but the maximum limit is 18 due to that being the number of types available currently in the Pokemon game series. Myself, Sheridan and @I Can't Odd (Who is also confirmed for the tournament) will be taking a look at the sign ups and will be taking each sign up under consideration however some people may not be allowed in the tournament due to poor performances in previous tournaments or other reasons.

One thing to address is that Pokemon from Pokemon Sword and Shield will not Be permitted to be used in this seasons tournament due to the current smogon competitive ban lists and tier lists still being undecided for Pokemon in the Galar Region Pokedex therefore they cannot be used in this tournament.
