Lakers fire Luke Walton; Casey, Budenholzer, Drew, Adams "in the running"

May 10th, 2018

The Los Angeles Lakers have fired head coach Luke Walton after a 35-47 season. Walton was hired April 2016, and replaced Byron Scott, and under Walton, the Lakers made several impressive improvements and developments. But today, Magic Johnson, Rob Pelinka, and Walton met for their exit interview and they agreed that it was time to move on, with the Lakers ambitions to chase superstars this summer, a young development coach doesn't make much sense on paper, and won't attract free agents such as Cavaliers F LeBron James, or Thunder G/F Paul George.

As for the new potential Lakers coach, the Hawks recently parted ways with Mike Budenholzer. Budenholzer took the Hawks to a Western Conference Finals, priding his teams on 'team basketball'. NBA Insider Stephen A. Smith said on his radio show that he's heard Budenholzer, while he is also hearing big rumblings of Dwane Casey being replaced in Toronto, and that if Casey is fired, there is a 65% chance he lands in Lakerland.

Other names being mentioned are Cavaliers current head assistant Larry Drew, for his obvious appeal to LeBron James, and Golden State Warriors defensive mastermind Ron Adams, both of whom have head coaching ambitions but haven't found right jobs to leave their current teams. With the Cavaliers and Warriors both set to do battle in their respective conference finals, Adams and Drew seem unlikely if Magic and Pelinka are trying to get a coach soon.

As for Luke Walton, the Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to move on from Tom Thibodeau, and with Karl Anthony-Towns (22), Andrew Wiggins (23), Minnesota could be a nice landing spot for Walton. But the question of Jimmy Butler remains, who reportedly wants a trade now, following the Timberwolves first round exit to the Houston Rockets... With the playoffs dwindling down, the offseason is about to heat up...

Lakers hire 2018 Kia NBA Coach of the Year Dwane Casey: Press Release

Image result for dwane casey 2018 coach of the year

June 1st, 2018

The Los Angeles Lakers have hired 2018 Kia NBA Coach of the Year Dwane Casey. Casey replaces the recently-fired Luke Walton, as Casey last coached the Toronto Raptors, who finished 59-23, 1st in the East. Unfortunately for Casey, he ran into what seems to be the Toronto Raptors weakness; LeBron James. Following the Cavaliers sweep of the Raptors, the Raptors informed Casey they would be going in a different direction, and for the Lakers the decision became between Dwane Casey, and Mike Budenholzer, who was hired by the Bucks yesterday.

Casey signs a 3 year, 15 million dollar deal to become the coach of one of the NBA's most storied franchises. The Lakers will feature a new-look coaching staff, as Casey's top assistant, Nick Nurse, has replaced him in Toronto. Rumored to be Casey's top assistant is none other than Spurs assistant, Ime Udoka. With the draft just a few weeks away, with the Lakers holding two picks (25th overall, 34th overall), the Lakers look to have some stability as they make their selections and also make runs at big-name free agents.

Meet the Lakers 2018 Draft Class:

June 21st, 2018

The Los Angeles Lakers made two selections, along with acquiring the rights to the 30th overall pick Omari Spellman and 48th overall pick from the Atlanta Hawks for the 34th overall pick, and three second round picks (2021, 2023, 2024). With the 30th pick, the Hawks selected Spellman, a F/C out of Villanova, a man with college averages of 10.9 points, and 8.0 rebounds and a championship pedigree, winning a National Championship at Villanova.

With Cleveland's first round pick acquired in the Isaiah Thomas trade, the Lakers selected Wichita State G Landry Shamet, who has college averages of 12.9 points per game, 4.3 assists, with a deadly 43% clip from 3 point range. Shamet has the opportunity to grab a rotation spot in year one, whereas the other two rookies will most likely be redshirts.

And with the 48th overall pick, the Lakers selected Elie Okobo, a guard from France. Playing for France Jeep Elite, Okobo averaged 13.8 points and 4.7 assists while knocking down three point shots at a 41% clip. Okobo figures to be a G-League player for year one.

KAWHI LEONARD TRADED TO PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS

June 21st, 2018

After weeks of rumored discontent between Kawhi Leonard and the Spurs following Leonard only playing nine games in the 2017-2018 season, the Spurs have finally granted Kawhi Leonard's request and traded him to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Leonard, the 2014 NBA Finals MVP, and two-time defensive player of the year, seemed to be a Spur for life until this year, when teammates such as Tony Parker began to question Kawhi's injury, whether he was being geniune about it. With Leonard undoubtedly being a top-10 player, the Spurs got a great package for him.

G CJ McCollum, and C Jusuf Nurkic, who will sign a 3 year, 50.5 million dollar contract with this trade confirmation. In addition to Leonard, the Trail Blazers will absorb G Danny Green's 1 year, 10 million pact, replacing the high volume scoring of McCollum with a 3&D guard who has championship pedigree. Can this finally be the turning point for Portland?

Oh damn some big trades coming out. For me it will be interesting to see what happens to the Raptors now that they dont get Kawhi Leonard. Will they be stuck going out in the second round of the playoffs again? Also the Harris trade could be big too, as a similar trade happened irl. Except Covington wasnt used as he was traded to the TImberwolves. Does that mean Jimmy Butler will go somewhere else?

LAKERS, MONTREZL HARELL AGREE TO 3 YEAR, 24 MILLION DOLLAR DEAL

Image result for MONTREZL HARRELL CLIPPERS 2017

July 3rd, 2018

The Lakers have agreed to a deal with F/C Montrezl Harrell, paying him 24 million over the course of 3 seasons. At just 24 years old, Harrell broke through last season, being an energy guy over the court, while posting impressive Per-36 minutes of 23.3 points and 8.5 rebounds. The Lakers hope Harrell can be a guy to come off their bench, focusing on depth following all their superstar hopes resigning to their teams (Durant - GSW 1+1, CP3, George, Capela).

According to reports though, the Lakers aren't done pursuing a star. With Julius Randle landing in Brooklyn, Harrell likely replaces what Randle brought to the table, but the Lakers aren't happy yet. They want a star next to LeBron James THIS SEASON, and according to Ramona Shelbourne, the Lakers are looking at Indiana's Victor Oladipo (who took James' Cavaliers to 7 games in the first round this year), and Washington's Bradley Beal. It's unconfirmed whether these players are available but it will be interesting to see if Magic and Pelinka can pull something off...

The Los Angeles Lakers open training camp for the 2018-2019 season:

Image result for los angeles lakers practice court

September 25th, 2018

The Los Angeles Lakers officially opened training camp today, at their practice center, the UCLA Health Center. Every player was there, including the Lakers' two-way contracts, Alex Caruso, and LiAngelo Ball. After one day of practice, and a scrimmage in which Team LeBron (Lonzo Ball, Landry Shamet, LeBron James, Thaddeus Young, Ivica Zubac) edged out Team Rondo (Rajon Rondo, Victor Oladipo, Josh Hart, Montrezl Harrell, JaVale McGee) 21-17. After the first day, this is the likely Lakers depth chart for the season.

Image result for nba power rankings 2018 PRESEASON

NBA PRESEASON POWER RANKINGS
PART 1 OF 3

October 10th, 2018

1. Golden State Warriors - The Warriors bring back their championship core of Durant, Curry, Draymond, Klay Thompson, and just added the one missing they were missing: A paint protector, in former all-star Dwight Howard, and former MVP candidate. The Warriors are undoubtedly the favorite heading into this year.

2. Houston Rockets - The Rockets came one game within the NBA Finals last year, and resigned Chris Paul and Clint Capela to contracts keeping them in Houston. A major loss in Trevor Ariza, the Rockets (potentially) panicked and sent Nene and Ryan Anderson, along with a first round pick, to Charlotte for Nicolas Batum. They also added James Ennis and Pau Gasol as bench pieces to strengthen their depth.

3. Boston Celtics - The Celtics made the conference finals last year without arguably their best two players. Now, with those two players back, it makes it Brad Stevens' job to gel them together and lead them to a championship. But with Stevens being praised as one of the best coaches in the league, it should be a challenge but one the former Butler coach should be able to figure out.

4. Oklahoma City Thunder - Despite a first round loss last year, the Thunder went all-in on building around Russell Westbrook. First trading Carmelo Anthony to Miami to pair with his buddy Dwyane Wade, they received Hassan Whiteside, one of the best rebounding centers, and Kelly Olynyk, a stretch 4. Bringing back Jerami Grant, and adding Tyus Jones and Tyreke Evans only made this team that much better.

5. Portland Trail Blazers - The Trail Blazers made the biggest move of the summer, grabbing Kawhi Leonard from the San Antonio Spurs for CJ McCollum and Nurkic. An underrated aspect of the deal is that they also acquired Danny Green, who will step in as a shooter, and a + defender alongside Damien Lillard. With steals in free agency, such as Brook Lopez, TJ McConnell, Richaun Holmes, this team may have secured itself a second round spot this year.

6. Toronto Raptors - The Raptors were the best team in the East last year, and if it wasn't for a mental lapse against LeBron James, they may have well been in the finals. Now, they've added Jimmy Butler alongside DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry, which yes, adds a hole down low, but one that Serge Ibaka can fill. As for the 4, look for Pascal Siakam to gain a more prominent role.

7. Los Angeles Lakers - They added the biggest fish in free agency this summer in LeBron James along with the NBA KIA Coach of the Year Dwane Casey, but you have to wonder how this Lakers team will fare. Yes, they added a second star in Victor Oladipo. But the free agent signings around LeBron (Rondo, McGee, Lance Stephenson), may not shake out that way. But if they do, the Lakers could be bringing home #17, and giving LeBron #4.

8. Milwaukee Bucks - With a new head coach in Mike Budenholzer, Giannis Antetkounmpo might have his best season yet, and break out. With supporting pieces like Khris Middleton, Eric Bledsoe, Malcolm Brodgon, this team could go a long way. Not to mention... When DeMarcus Cousins returns from injury in January, this team could be dangerous with a starting five of Bledsoe-Brodgon-Middleton-Giannis-Cousins.

9. San Antonio Spurs - Even with losing Kawhi Leonard, the Spurs once again showed why they're the golden standard of the NBA, getting two young studs for Leonard. With McCollum finally having the freedom to be the No.1 scorer, look for the Spurs to once again make the playoffs and prove everyone wrong, as everyone doubts them from the beginning once again.

10. Phildelphia 76ers - The 76ers sort of cashed in on their young talent, sending Robert Covington to Los Angeles for Tobias Harris. Harris is a nice fit alongside Embiid down low, and allows Dario Saric to control the bench scoring as 6th man. Not to mention another offseason of development for Ben Simmons, the process is nearly complete and depends on how Embiid can hold up throughout the season.

NBA PRESEASON POWER RANKINGS
PART 2 OF 2
October 10th, 2018

11. Denver Nuggets - The Nuggets are headed by young star Nikola Jokic, who averaged 18.5 points per game, 10 RPG, and 6.1 APG, and their young backcourt of Jamal Murray and Gary Harris. With supporting pieces like Paul Millsap, Malik Beasley, Monte Morris, Will Barton, and Mason Plumlee, the Nuggets could be prime for a breakout year with this new-look team.

12. Utah Jazz - With a defensive anchor in Rudy Gobert, a sophomore standout in Donovan Mitchell, and supporting pieces in Derrick Favors, Joe Ingles, Jae Crowder, and Ricky Rubio. The Jazz beat the Thunder last year in the playoffs and potentially look to make noise, but with not many new pieces being added, the Jazz could be complacent.

13. Indiana Pacers - Even without Victor Oladipo, their 23.1 PPG guy, the Pacers sport a cast that took LeBron James' Cavaliers to seven games in the first round. Adding in Brandon Ingram, who could very well earn himself an all-star berth in a weaker Eastern Conference, and Kyle Kuzma, an electric scorer, the Pacers could see themselves as a top-5 team in the East.

14. Washington Wizards - John Wall and Bradley Beal remain one of the NBA's best backcourts, but the supporting cast around them lacks in talent. Outside of rookie Mitchell Robinson, the Wizards mostly run back the team from last year. They could potentially hit their stride this year in the East with LeBron James gone, but they may need to make a move to make this team a legitimate contender in the East.

15. Los Angeles Clippers - The Clippers traded Tobias Harris for Robert Covington, plus a first to prepare for the future, but this is a team definitely able of playoff contention. They have a deep team that could make a run, but without a primary scorer, there could be issues down the stretch as they look to get the ball into the basket.

16. Memphis Grizzlies
17. Detroit Pistons
18. Minneosta Timberwolves
19. New Orleans Pelicans
20. Orlando Magic
21. Miami Heat
22. Sacramento Kings
23. Charlotte Hornets
24. Chicago Bulls
25. Atlanta Hawks
26. Phoenix Suns
27. Dallas Mavericks
28. Sacramento Kings
29. Cleveland Cavaliers
30. New York Knicks

Personally as a Lakers fan Slim ngl I don't like the move for Oladipo.  Hes a good player yes but I dont think hes worth giving up Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma. I'd rather have gotten a Bradley Beal or just keep the young talent

Yeah I feel you, but my thought process is that I'm maximizing LeBron's talent right now. Last offseason, Oladipo was coming off of a 23.1 PPG season where he took LeBron's Cavs to 7. Plus Thaddeus Young, who is an impressive 3&D PF who can complete the starting lineup, I feel like that puts us into actual contention opposed to keeping the young core.

Los Angeles Lakers (0-0) vs Portland Trail Blazers (0-0)

October 18th, 2018

The debut of the new-look Los Angeles Lakers would begin in Portland, as the Lakers kicked their season off against Kawhi Leonard and Damien Lillard. Starting off the game hot, the Lakers would come out and take a commanding 15-4 lead, behind 6-6 shooting to begin the game. The Lakers would largely control the game, until the middle of the 3rd quarter when Kawhi Leonard began to heat up, eventually tying the game at 70-70. Lonzo Ball (0-6 up to that point), with Landry Shamet, Josh Hart, Montrezl Harrell, and Javale McGee, would end the quarter by scoring 8 points (3-3), giving the Lakers a 6 point lead heading into the fourth, 78-72.

In the fourth quarter, a scare for Lakers fans would occur, as about with five minutes left, LeBron James drove to the basket, and landed wrong, holding his leg as he would be taken out of the game. It would be diagnosed as shin splints, and LeBron James would return just a few minutes later, as the Lakers sealed the game off, 100-96. LeBron James would finish his Lakers debut with 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists on 8-15 shooting. Victor Oladipo would have an impressive showing of his own (23 points, 6 steals, 7-10 shooting), and rookie Landry Shamet showed his shot making ability (11 points, 4-5 shooting, 3-4 3PT).

As for the Trail Blazers, Kawhi Leonard put on a show, with 32 points on 12-23 shooting (4-6 from 3), and Damien Lillard would struggle, while having 21 points, but having 6 turnovers as a result of heavy defense from Victor Oladipo and Lonzo Ball. The Blazers have a lot of new pieces, much like the Lakers, and they have to figure out how to play together. This was a case of both teams having to find things to gel, and in the end, the team with the best player won as LeBron, returning on shin splints, sealed the game with free throws. Next for the Lake Show is Houston in their home opener, on the 20th, while CJ McCollum returns to Portland for their next game as they face the Spurs on the 20th.

Los Angeles Lakers (1-0) vs Houston Rockets (1-0)

Image result for lakers rockets fight

October 20th, 2018

Two nights after the Lake-Show's season opening win against the Trail Blazers, the Lakers and Rockets came out slinging in an all-out shootout. But the biggest moment was when Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo went at it, as a brawl broke out at the Staples Center with Rondo, Chris Paul, and Victor Oladipo involved. There is expected to be punishment for all three NBA players, as all three were ejected with 2:12 to go in the third quarter.

With the loss of Rondo and Oladipo, the Lake-Show merely was not deep enough to contain the high-octane offense of the Rockets despite LeBron's effort. With arguably two of the team's top 4 defensive players gone as well, it became easier for Harden (34 points, 11 assists) to score with Josh Hart or Landry Shamet guarding him, while Clint Capela feasted on JaVale McGee, having one of the best games of his career (28 points, 13 rebounds). In the end, despite LeBron James' 45 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists, the Lakers would fall victim to the Rockets, 152-133.

The next day, the NBA would announce punishments for every player involved in the brawl. Chris Paul would be suspended 3 games without pay, while Rajon Rondo would face a four game suspension without pay. Lastly, Victor Oladipo would be serving a two-game suspension. For the Rockets, this isn't a big deal, but with a team like the Lakers trying to gel its pieces together in the early part of the season, these lost games could come back to hurt them in the future.

ANTHONY DAVIS REQUESTS TRADE

November 28th, 2018

After a 7-15 start, and virtually NO talent behind Jrue Holiday, word has come from Klutch Sports (Anthony Davis' agency), that Anthony Davis officially wants out of New Orleans. Davis is currently averaging 27.3 points and 11.5 rebounds, and looks well on his way to another all-star appearance. Unfortunately, the Pelicans lost DeMarcus Cousins this offseason and that damaged Davis' relationship with the team.

Davis has stated that he wants to stay in New Orleans, but at the same time he has said in interviews he wonders sometimes if he's wasting years of his prime with no talent around him. Early interested teams figure to be the Los Angeles Clippers, the Chicago Bulls (Davis' hometown team), and suprisingly, the Denver Nuggets. Who would you like to see Davis go to?
