The series premiere of All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) “Dynamite” on TNT came out on top against WWE’s NXT on USA Network in the Wednesday night Nielsen Live+Same Day ratings.

“Dynamite” averaged a 0.68 rating in adults 18-49 and 1.4 million viewers over two hours, compared to a 0.32 rating and 891,000 viewers for NXT. This week also marked the first time that NXT has aired its full two-hour show on USA. NXT has previously aired exclusively on the streaming platform WWE Network, but the first hour began airing on USA beginning Sept. 18 with the second hour remaining on WWE Network until last night.

“This is a league that at its core is created by wrestlers for wrestling fans and I am incredibly energised by the enthusiastic embrace the fans have given to the AEW talent and experience,” said Kevin Reilly, president, TNT, TBS, and truTV, and chief content officer, HBO Max. “AEW won the night with a high quality, incredibly engaging, sports-centric show that will continue with a seamless partnership between AEW and TNT."

Both shows ranked among the top 10 shows on cable Wednesday night in the adults 18-49 demographic. For further comparison, this week’s episode of WWE’s flagship show “Monday Night Raw” averaged a 0.89 rating and 2.57 million viewers over three hours in Live+Same Day.

“Congratulations to AEW on a successful premiere,” WWE said in a statement. “The real winners of last night’s head-to-head telecasts of NXT on USA Network and AEW on TNT are the fans, who can expect Wednesday nights to be a competitive and wild ride as this is a marathon, not a one-night sprint.”

While last week saw record low numbers for AEW Dynamite, despite still coming out ahead of NXT, this week’s show saw an increase in overnight viewership. The average overnight audience was 701,000 viewers. That’s up from the 654,000 viewers for last week’s episode. The P18-49 rating drew a 0.26 rating, which is also an increase from last week’s 0.23 rating. Last week’s key demo rating was another record low for Dynamite.

AEW Dynamite won this week's viewership battle with 827,000 (0.32 18-49 demo) viewers and finished 4th for the night on cable. This week's Dynamite was the post-Double or Nothing PPV edition.

I’m curious as to what caused the dip for AEW over time. I figured that their viewership would come closer to approaching their opening numbers but they seem stuck in NXT territory, who I don’t think they should be competing with. I wonder what it’s going to take to bump that back up over the million mark

WHAT HAPPENED WHEN ORANGE CASSIDY AND JERICHO FACED OFF? | AEW ...

Chris Jericho Says AEW Is The Real Winner Of The Wednesday Night War With WWE NXT This Week

Quote

AEW star Chris Jericho took to Twitter this afternoon and commented on last night's ratings battle between WWE NXT and AEW Dynamite.

As noted, the NXT Great American Bash Night 1 episode drew more viewers than the Fyter Fest Night 1 edition of Dynamite, but AEW won in the 18-49 key demographic, as they usually do. Jericho pointed to how the key demo is what advertisers look for, and said this proves AEW was the real winner this week.

"Here's a lesson about television ratings kids. Last night @AEWrestling was NUMBER 6 in the 18-49 demo. To tv networks & advertisers it's the ONLY number that matters and we were up 31% in that area! So once again #AEWDynamite is the REAL winner in the Wed night ratings war!," Jericho tweeted.

AEW ranked #6 in the key demo this week while NXT ranked #13.
