Cameras cut backstage, where we see Eric Bischoff in a changing room along with the New World Order, including "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan. Eric Bischoff is giving a speech of motivation towards the stable, with the likes of Curt Hennig, Kevin Nash and even Vincent, Buff Bagwell's associate, in attendance. He speaks on the importance of beating down the want-to-be heroes of World Championship Wrestling, claiming this is the night they truthfully stomp their authority on the wrestling industry.

Steve McMichael is in the ring when Goldberg's entrance theme hits, pyrotechnics enhanced due to the Starrcade effect. As Goldberg cuts through the sparks and flames Steve McMichael's expression goes from confident to worried, as if he has seen a ghost. He is visibly nervous, gulping as Goldberg enters the ring and sets his sight on the fellow former football athlete. He stays in his corner as the bell sounds off.

The cameras are backstage as a limousine pulls into the backstage area. Eric Bischoff is seen waiting in anticipation, the attending crowd silent. The silence turns to an uproar as former WWF Heavyweight Championship holder and wrestling icon Bret "The Hitman" Hart gets out. Eric Bischoff is quick to greet him, until Larry Zbyzsko also appears to greet him. Bret Hart seems anxious to greet either man. The two continue to pester Bret Hart as he walks down the closest corridor, the camera not following.

[ This match was match of the night, Randy Savage attained the best individual performance of the night. ]

"Hollywood" Hulk Hogan and The Outsiders, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, are backstage. They're watching Lex Luger celebrate his win over Buff Bagwell, and taking into consideration that Curt Hennig and Randy Savage also lost their match, The Outsiders are quick to point out the New World Order are without a win thus far. "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan is ice cool. He promises the duo that the New World Order is fine as they're all going to win their matches, the likes of Sting and The Giant will not be victorious tonight.

Larry Zbyzsko and Eric Bischoff are in the ring for their match, the winner of who will have sole control of WCW Monday Night Nitro. Scott Hall is at ringside for Eric Bischoff. The camera pans to the entrance ramp, where Bret Hart's entrance music hits, alongside pyrotechnics celebrating the arrival of "The Hitman" in WCW. Bret Hart waits a while to appear but does so in classic WCW referee attire to the delight of the fans. He eyes both Eric Bischoff and Larry Zbyzsko are he makes his way down to the ring.

[ Bret "The Hitman" Hart did not join the New World Order. ]

After a video package airs highlighting the long feud between "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan and Sting, the latter makes a loud, emphatic entrance. Highlights once more air of the feud but with a voice over from Sting, presumably the first time he has spoken in months. He highlights where "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan went wrong in their feud, and claims he will gain revenge for the months and months of torture to the World Championship Wrestling athletes at the hands of the New World Order.

Sting (c) vs. Kevin Nash vs. The Giant - WCW World Heavyweight Championship

An ongoing feud stumbles into the World Heavyweight Championship picture. Following beating Kevin Nash at WCW Starrcade, The Giant and Kevin Nash once more found themselves in the middle of a blockbuster main event the following Nitro. The Giant, alongside Lex Luger and Sting, would defeat the centrepieces of the New World Order in The Outsiders and "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan. After revealing the following week that Hogan would be taking a hiatus from the promotion, Kevin Nash alongside Scott Hall was quick to challenge Lex Luger and The Giant to a tag team showdown. The Outsiders were seemingly the new honchos of the New World Order and they were successful in the main event, Kevin Nash gaining the win via pinfall over Lex Luger. Post-match, Sting involved himself as the likes of Curt Hennig and Randy Savage came to beat down The Giant, and the babyface trio would clear the ring of the New World Order to close out the show. After a back and forth opened the following show, recently appointed WCW Nitro General Manager Roddy Piper would make a three-way match for WCW Souled out with the World Heavyweight Championship on the line. After Kevin Nash would involve himself in a main event match pitting The Giant against Scott Hall, Sting would come to the aide of the Giant, but The Giant would accidentally punch Sting in the face as the New World Order would collect on the outside.

Bret Hart vs. Ric Flair

Bret Hart and his actions at WCW Starrcade were a huge talking point in the fallout of the event. Bret Hart would take to the ring the day afterwards and explain why he came to WCW and why he did not align himself with the New World Order. He explains he didn't want to turn to the dark side and be 'like them' for he had similar experiences with another group in a different promotion and he didn't want to help and encourage the problem. Bret Hart reveals he came to WCW to be the best and to be the man, you had to beat the man. Bret Hart revealed he wants to face none other than Ric Flair in his first official match for the promotion. The week after Ric Flair would accept Bret Hart's challenge. He thanked Bret Hart for not aligning with the New World Order, before promising Hart that although he appreciated his choices, he would not go easy in the ring at WCW Souled Out. The Go-Home show would feature a contract signing set up by General Manager Roddy Piper. Bret Hart and Ric Flair went back and forth, until Buff Bagwell interrupted and insulted the pair. This lead to a match where Ric Flair would defeat Buff Bagwell while Bret Hart was on commentary.

Eddie Guerrero (c) vs. Ultimo Dragon - WCW Cruiserweight Championship

Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko would find themselves taking on Eddie Guerrero and Saturn in the first match of WCW Nitro. While Benoit and Malenko were able to get the victory this infuriated Raven who was at ringside, proceeding for a three on two beatdown to take place. Ultimo Dragon of all people would come to the aide of Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko helping the duo clear the ring of the the antagonists. The following week a six-man tag team match would take place, Eddie Guerrero would be at ringside. Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio Jr. and Ultimo Dragon dispatched of the Mexican Cruiserweight trio they faced in Juventud Guerrera, La Parka and Psychosis. Eddie Guerrero would sarcastically applaud Ultimo Dragon for his win following the celebrations. The Go-Home show featured Eddie Guerrero attempting to attack Ultimo Dragon backstage only for Rey Mysterio to come to the aide of him. Roddy Piper would announce later in the show that at WCW Souled Out, Ultimo Dragon would compete for the Cruiserweight Championship.
