Los Angeles Lakers: New Dynasty
| Year I - Prologue Pt. 1 |

June 17th, 2019

The day that changed the direction of the Los Angeles Lakers forever. After an offseason of turmoil, filled with rumors, head coaching strikeouts, Magic Johnson leaving, all was good in Los Angeles. On June 17th, 2019, coming off of a season of failure in LeBron James' first season as a Laker, the trade was official: Anthony Davis was coming to Los Angeles, after a wasted season for himself, with a five-team-trade with Atlanta & Cleveland which netted the Lakers the 5th pick. New head coach Frank Vogel now officially has the best duo in the world in his first season of coaching in a few years... Just weeks after they won the lottery with improbable odds, the Lakers used all their assets on deck to net themselves Anthony Davis, while adding a top pick in the process. The Celtics, meanwhile, shipped Aron Baynes out, clearing enough money to make a max contract spot available.

With Anthony Davis now secured, the Lakers looked ahead to the draft, where they targeted a list of reportedly 3 names: North Carolina G Coby White, Vanderbilt G Darius Garland, and Virginia F DeAndre Hunter. Out of these 3, Garland possessed the most potential, but also was the most injury-prone, in addition to signing with Klutch Sports, LeBron James & Anthony Davis' agency. Meanwhile, Coby White probably made the best fit with LeBron James & Anthony Davis, as his combo guard skills would allow LeBron James to play off ball and have a shooter in the corner when he is on-ball. And lastly, DeAndre Hunter was regarded as a perfect 3&D player for this draft, probably the most NBA ready player outside of Morant, Williamson, and Barrett, but also had the lowest ceiling of the Lakers three targets. Unfortunately for Los Angeles, with a clear starting five of Ball-Jrue Holiday-Brandon Ingram-Kyle Kuzma-John Collins, the Pelicans no longer had interest picking at 3, as they fielded offers to move down. Eventually, they settled on one.

Now, with the blockbuster trades finished, the 2019 NBA Draft came and went, with the expected results in the top 4. Atlanta selected Zion Williamson first overall, pairing Trae Young & Zion together in what is sure to make a dynamic duo for years to come in the East. With the second pick, Michael Jordan made it clear that Kemba Walker was out in Charlotte, as he took the new face of the franchise, Ja Morant second. With the third pick, Miami brought RJ Barrett into the fold, and with the fourth, New York selected Jarrett Culver, falling in love with him before the draft. Now, with the fifth pick, and all three of their wishlists on the board, GM Rob Pelinka had a tough decision to make.

"With the fifth pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers select... DeAndre Hunter, Forward, Virginia."

With just LeBron James, Anthony Davis, DeAndre Hunter, and Aron Baynes on the roster, it was clear the Lakers had work to do in free agency. Just before free agency, two blockbuster trades once again took place, this time with the Thunder duo, of Russell Westbrook & Paul George both being moved, BLOWING up the Thunder and setting them on a rebuild course for the next few years with young players and assets.

Trade 1:

With the florida wars now consisting of Orlando vs. Miami, the battle for free agency heated up. The Magic, with Russell Westbrook on board, were now high-favorites to retain Nikola Vucevic. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, considered a package deal, would most likely be heading to the Brooklyn Nets, while D'Angelo Russell was on the outskirts. The favorite for Kawhi was looked at as the Los Angeles Clippers, while meanwhile, the Houston Rockets still desparately looked for a Chris Paul trade, with little-to-no suitors. In Lakerland, Rob Pelinka and Jeanie Buss faced a task of constructing a roster next to the greatest duo in the NBA, with an NBA Finals-or-bust season upcoming...

Los Angeles Lakers: New Dynasty
| Year I - Prologue Pt. 2 |

July 1st, 2019:

NBA Free Agency has started, as the rumored signing of Kevin Durant & Kyrie Irving is official. They are Nets, but unfortunately for Brooklyn this figures to be a bridge-year, with Kevin Durant out for the year with a Torn Achilles he suffered in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, the Lakers have given up their pursuit of Kawhi Leonard as key free agents come off the board, as Malcolm Brodgon signs with Boston (4 years, 84.5 million), D'Angelo Russell & Bodgan Bogdanovic unites with Ben Simmons & Joel Embiid in Philadelphia, as Jimmy Butler & Tobias Harris are out. Soon enough, after striking out on key free agents, the Knicks would announce a max deal of 4 years, 140 million for Tobias Harris. In a surprising move, the Hawks would announce a 1 year deal for DeMarcus Cousins, totalling 12 million as they look to pursue playoff ambitions.

Meanwhile in Los Angeles, the loss of free agents while focused on Kawhi has shaken GM Rob Pelinka, who now moves away from his Kawhi-pursuit, leaving the Raptors & the Clippers in the race for the finals MVP. The first signing for the LeBron & AD led Lakers, would be none other than Derrick Rose, who signed to the Lakers on a 2 year, 17 million dollar deal.

As the signings continued to break, by July 4th, Kawhi Leonard had made his decision: He was heading to LA... The Clippers. And who was coming with him? None other than Jimmy Butler, while the Clippers shipped Danilo Gallinari to Portland for Zach Collins, Mo Harkless, and a protected first that will convey into seconds if not conveyed. With this shockwave sent through the NBA, the mecca of Basketball suddenly shifted from New York to Los Angeles, as for the first time in years, the battle of LA meant something.

With the Clippers now having Jimmy Butler and Kawhi Leonard, their first move was to sign Ekpe Udoh, who will figure to be their starting center with Montrez Harrell & Lou Williams off the bench. Meanwhile, in Lakerland, the Lakers connected on possibly their biggest signing, inking two-time NBA Champion, legendary 3&D player Danny Green to a 2 year, 27 million deal. The Lakers then proceeded to agree to deals with wings Rodney McGruder & Markieff Morris, giving them the much needed 3&D players needed around LeBron. When it was all said and done, the Lakers' roster shaked out as shown below:

I would put Lebron at the 3 and make Rose the starting 1 and move Hunter or McGruder to backup 2. I just think that makes the starting lineup stronger. And you could always move Caruso to the backup 1 if you not feeling cook

Yeah I understand that but I think the reason Rose is coming off the bench is because I want a scorer on the court at all times. And with Baynes/Rose/Hunter coming off the bench it makes my bench one of the best in the league and allows me to not play LeBron & AD heavy minutes in the regular season. McGruder is a phenomenal 3&D player I have no idea why the Clippers aren't playing him irl.

Really good start Slim, I think it's great to see guys move around like this. Rose is a great addition to the team and it'll be interesting to see how he plays alongside LBJ and AD. It's also cool to see Jimmy Butler as a part of the Clippers and D'Lo with the 76ers. Can't wait for more, keep up the good work,

Los Angeles Lakers: New Dynasty
| Year I - Volume I |

October 22nd, 2019

The energy in the Staples Center is the level of a Game 7, as the first Battle of Los Angeles is nearing, the 2nd game of the NBA season. The first game, the New Orleans Pelicans taking on the defending NBA Champion Toronto Raptors, would be a blowout, as the young Pelicans were overmatched by the confident veterans. Marc Gasol led Toronto with 28 points and 9 rebounds, while they had 6 double figure scorers. Meanwhile, for New Orleans, Brandon Ingram started his season strong with 25 points, while Collins added 16 & 12. Otherwise, it was a terrible night as the Pelicans look to build chemistry, while the Raptors had it already, being a championship team.\

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, it's tipoff time, as the starters for the Lakers are as followed, as the starting lineup reveals an offseason long question. Would LeBron James play PG?

G: #0 Rodney McGruder
28 y/o, 4 years pro

G: #14 Danny Green
32 y/o, 11 years pro

F: #23 LeBron James
34 y/o, 17 years pro

F: #3 Anthony Davis
26 y/o, 8 years pro

C| #7 Javale McGee
31 y/o, 12 years pro

The answer would be yes, putting to rest all the rumors and it was a show from the opening tip. as LeBron James dished out a career high 23 assists (sim-stats was on, bare with me it's fixed), while recording a triple double. 34/11/23, all while his co-star, Anthony Davis recorded 42 points and 19 rebounds. With any other team, it may have been a blowout but this was a dawg fight between the LA teams.

Neither giving an itch, the Clippers led by 8 at half, but the Lakers would rally and eventually send the game to overtime. In overtime, the Lakers would take over, outscoring the Clippers by 19 as momentum carried them through, giving them a 139-130 win in their first meeting with their rival. Coming after this win, confidence was prominent for the Lakers as they answered the offseason long questions of if they could actually play with the Clippers, but reality brought them back down to earth just nights later, as they lost to Utah by 2, with Anthony Davis missing the potential game-winning 3 pointer.

Standing at 1-1, the Lakers would formulate a defensive gameplan, thanks to Coach Frank Vogel, which would force rookie Ja Morant into a 7-26 shooting night, along with five turnovers in an easy 126-102 win for the Lakers, putting them at 2-1. A 50 point game by LeBron would secure the blowout against Memphis, improving LA to 3-1 as they travelled to Dallas. An uncharacteristic game for LeBron, who committed 10 turnovers, wouldn't be enough to cost LA the game as they eventually won by 7.

Going 2-2 over their next four games, questions would arise about the Lakers supporting cast beyond LeBron James & Anthony Davis, which 6th man Derrick Rose took the blame for, stating he has to come in and be able to score, after a 108-110 loss to the Miami Heat, where LeBron & AD combined for 68 of LA's 108 points. After this, the Lakers would go on a 9 game winning streak, before it was broken in AD's return to New Orleans. In the game against New Orleans, Anthony Davis would struggle, as he committed 5 turnovers, and was limited to just 19 points on 6-18 shooting, in a disappointing loss. Following a win over Washington, the Lakers would once again lose at the buzzer, as Luka Doncic would sink a buzzer-beating three to knock off the Lakers, putting them at 15-5, still good enough for first in the West. But meanwhile, just down the hall, the Clippers were making moves.

Officially announced by Woj on November 25th, the Clippers were sending Mo Harkless, a protected first rounder, Taj Gibson, and Jerome Robinson to Cleveland for Tristan Thompson and Shaun Livingston, giving the Clippers what they needed most: A starting rim protector, and a backup faciliator. In Lakerland, they prepared for what could be the toughest road stretch of the season: Denver, Utah, Portland, in four nights.
