Why Lance Archer chose to sign with AEW

Recommended Posts

Lance Archer has conducted a new interview with talkSPORT's Alex McCarthy, in which he reveals that the extra effort that All Elite Wrestling officials put into chasing him was the difference-maker when deciding where to sign earlier this year.

Per McCarthy, Archer "knew that he was signing for AEW by the time he faced Jon Moxley at Wrestle Kingdom 14 (4 January)." 'The Murderhawk Monster' had entertained several offers from elsewhere but no promotion was as attentive as AEW, with all kinds of people within the company reaching out to time, "from talent to execs."

26 February brought news that Archer had officially signed a multi-year deal with the promotion. His first appearance came on Dynamite's 11 March episode and Archer has since carved an impressive path of destruction, first destroying Marko Stunt and Alan Angels in brutal squash matches, then overcoming Colt Cabana in the TNT Championship Tournament's first round.

Tonight's episode of Dynamite sees Jake 'The Snake' Roberts' charge face off with sentimental veteran favourite Dustin Rhodes with a spot in the tourney finals on the line. If victorious, a match with Cody - whom Archer and Roberts have been chasing since arriving in AEW - could be on the cards, provided the younger Rhodes fells Darby Allin.

What I found interesting about this is that this kind of gives an idea of how AEW go after Talent in terms of the way they communicate with the talent which is smart business tactic managing to hit the talent on different angles rather than just going straight up with just contract offers.

True it's very interesting to look at AEW's method of going after talent, don't be suprised if they already reaching out to some of the current crop of WWE releases. Afterall they probably got the former Revival it seems on lock if the last episode of Being the Elite is any indication.

As for Archer himself I really hope he wins the TNT Championship since I feel he'd make for a good first champion.

As much as it is cool to see Lance Archer on AEW especially being managed by the legendary Jake Roberts (who spits venom in every single promo every since confronting Cody on Dynamite last month), I am still somewhat baffled as to his choosing of AEW over NJPW. While it would've made sense around three years ago, it seems he was just starting to plant a permanent Archer flag on New Japan with his Texas Deathmatch against Jon Moxley earlier this year at Wrestle Kingdom 14.
