CM Punk
The straight edge CM Punk has been a highly successful superstar in his three year tenure in Universe Mode. A career that has seen many highs and lows, as Punk has been achieved all the top honors on both RAW and Smackdown, by winning both the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships. His career also included an Intercontinental Championship stint as he achieved majority of his success on Smackdown.
STARTED FROM THE TOP
CM Punk immediately began his Universe Mode career as the WWE Champion on RAW. He was given the championship to be the inaugural holder heading into the Extreme Rules PPV. Punk however, wouldn’t be able to hang onto the championship for long, losing the title to John Cena at Extreme Rules (Year One). Punk would miss out on his rematch for the title at the next pay per view, Over The Limit. But would receive his shot a month later at Vengeance in a single’s clash against John Cena. However, Punk would again fail to achieve a victory, forcing him out of the title picture until Night of Champions months later.
Punk battled the new champion Brock Lesnar at the Night of Champions PPV, but he was unable to defeat the unstoppable beast. Punk would make numerous appearance in tag team matches for the next few months. Including teaming for “Team People” at Survivor Series in a losing effort and also representing “Team RAW” at Wrestlemania (Year Two) losing again.
MOVE TO SMACKDOWN
Punk was drafted to Smackdown after Wrestlemania (Year Two) and was immediately pushed into the Main Event of Extreme Rules for the World Heavyweight Championship. Punk would join Smackdown all-stars Batista, John Cena & Undertaker to make up a Fatal Four Way for the World Heavyweight Championship. Punks fortunes would not change however, losing the match and falling out of favour for the world title clash. Instead, Punk would turn his attention to the Intercontinental Championship.
CM Punk finally captured championship gold once again, as he defeated Mark Henry at Payback (Year Two) for the Intercontinental Championship. This would be CM Punks first championship for over one year. Punk would begin to battle Bray Wyatt for the championship and lost the title to Wyatt at Money in the Bank (Year Two). His rivalry with Bray Wyatt would continue to boil as he challenged Luke Harper & Erick Rowan for the World Tag Team Championships. Punk teamed up with Batista, who also had a bone to pick with the Wyatt’s, they challenged for the tag team titles at Summerslam (Year Two), however their lack of experience as a team would cost them the win and would go their separate ways.
RECLAIMING THE GOLD
It was from this point that CM Punk would look to get back into the World Heavyweight Championship scene. He battled his way through the Survivor Series tournament, winning three huge matches in a row to become the next number one contender for TLC. Punk would challenge current champion Chris Jericho in a TLC match. Punk would win his first world championship in a year and a half through the help of Christian. Christian attacked Chris Jericho mid match, which CM Punk was able to take advantage and grab the championship above the ladder to win the gold.
Punk successfully defend his championship at the Royal Rumble pay per view in a Triple Threat match against Chris Jericho and Christian. He would hold onto the championship until Wrestlemania (Year Three). Kevin Owens made a major mark on Smackdown, debuting and immediately becoming the number one contender for Punks championship. CM Punk would headline Wrestlemania and had accomplished all of his goals in his career, stating that if he lost the championship he would retire. Kevin Owens successfully defeated CM Punk at Wrestlemania, ending Punks championship reign and career.
COMEBACK FROM RETIREMENT
CM Punk would shock the world and make his triumphant return at the Money in the Bank PPV (Year Three), approaching Kevin Owens who had just defended his championship. Owens was talking on the microphone, stating that there was nobody left to beat as he had beaten everyone on Smackdown. Punk would appear and enter the ring and look to fight Owens, who scampered out of the ring and refused to fight. CM Punk would be granted a rematch for the World Heavyweight Championship by Smackdown General Manager Edge for Summerslam (Year Three). Kevin Owens defeated CM Punk at Summerslam, ending CM Punk’s Universe Mode career for good.
